With concerns rising about a possible Israel war with Iran this fall, the U.S. and Israel will soon hold a major military exercise.  "The US and Israel will commence the largest-ever joint air defense drill of its  kind in Israel on October 21, an army source said on Tuesday," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The  exercise, named Austere Challenge 12, was originally scheduled for last spring  but was postponed due to regional tensions with Iran. On October 14,  large numbers of American soldiers are expected to begin arriving in Israel,  where they will set up aerial defense positions on Israeli territory and on US  Navy vessels off the Israeli coastline. The three-week drill will  simulate various missile defense scenarios, and is expected to end with a  live-fire interception of a decoy incoming Patriot missile....At the end of August, the US  said it would decrease the original number of American forces due to take part  in AC12. An Israeli defense source said at the time that the exercise will still  be the largest of its kind to date, adding, 'Defense cooperation between Israel  and the US has never been better.' In 2009, the IDF and US European  Command held the Juniper Cobra 10 air defense exercise, which involved 1,400 US  soldiers and the same number of IDF soldiers. The drill went through  three phases: a field training exercise; computer simulation command  post-exercise to test interoperability capabilities; and a live-fire exercise  involving a Patriot missile interception."
Joe Biden has been left with little to smile about after the latest Rasmussen tracking poll found that Mitt Romney has overtaken President Barack Obama.
The poll, released today but conducted before Biden's hectoring, smirking debate clash with Paul Ryan, is the latest indication that Romney's gains after his strong debate performance mark a shift in the U.S. presidential race rather than merely a temporary bounce.

The Obama administration has now publicly announced that it deployed U.S. troops near the Syrian border in neighboring Jordan without ever seeking congressional permission, supposedly in an effort to help the Jordanian government deal with refugees from Syria while ensuring that the civil war does not spill over into the broader region. Concerns about chemical and biological weapons falling into the “wrong hands” were also cited to justify the latest deployment, but some lawmakers are upset, warning that the U.S. is now even closer to overt military intervention in Syria.
[This is the ad which shows Obama using the very same campaign talking points that he used in 2008.  It's almost funny.]
On the day before a state law would have mandated its employees pay 20 percent of their health care costs, the school board unanimously approved a teacher union contract that called for 12.5 percent health care contributions in 2011-12, and 15 percent to 17.5 percent in 2012-13.
If government union school employees paid the same amount toward their health care costs as federal employees in Michigan (27 percent), taxpayers would save at least $500 million a year.
Then, in June 2012, the school board agreed not to privatize its custodians, which cost $240,000, according to MLive.

As Joe Biden and Paul Ryan tore into each other over chewy topics like Iran and tax during last night's TV debate, there was only one subject preoccupying tens of thousands of viewers - the Vice President's glaring toothy grin.Within minutes of the debate starting, Twitter was abuzz with users taken aback by Biden's behaviour and sent out mocking messages.
Finger-wagging: Some found Biden's unusual mannerisms off-putting and disrespectful
Talk about chickens coming home to roost.  Talk about the Mother of All Fiascos.  It's the revenge of Osama bin Laden from the bottom of the ocean, and the message is plain: al-Qaeda is very much alive, and America is a paper tiger.
The Middle East is beginning to fall apart -- Iran just sent a spy drone over Israel's sensitive defense installations, and the IDF waited hours to react; Turkey forced down a Syrian arms plane, and al-Qaeda's Al Zawahiri openly assaulted the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi in a six-hour attack, working through al-Qaeda in the Maghreb (AQIM), while the glorious Libyan friends did nothing as our ambassador was being raped and murdered.  The guards called for help, and nobody responded.  A police car fled the scene.  The other ten cop cars requested by the consulate never showed up.
The Libyan regime knew.  It had to know.
In Afghanistan, our soldiers are being murdered by the same Afghan troops we are training to take over after we leave.  They can see the weak horse and the strong horse, and they are trying to tell the strong horse what side they are on.  These folks used to be on our side, but they know which way the storm is blowing.
Remember: host governments are always responsible for the safety of accredited diplomats and soldiers.  Always, always, always.  Embassies have a U.S. Marine color guard -- not for protection, but for a symbolic presence.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller, Klein said sources close to the Clintons tell him that Bill Clinton has assembled an informal legal team to discuss how the Secretary of State should deal with the issue of being blamed for not preventing the Benghazi terrorist attack last month.
White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters during a press conference Friday that responsibility for the consulate in Libya fell on the State Department, not the White House.
Klein said relations between the Clintons and President Obama have reached a new low, most recently with Obama ignoring Bill Clinton’s offer to help him and Vice President Joe Biden prepare for the debates with the Republican ticket.
“He had very clear ideas on how they should do that,” Klein told TheDC. “He never once got a response. And it absolutely sent him into orbit. He was furious that he would be treated this way, especially after what he did, in his view, at the Democratic convention in giving that nomination speech for Obama.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland ended a series of questions about the terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, and the ensuing Obama Administration claims that it was caused by an anti-Islam film, by saying that she’s paid to be “dumber” than other government officials.
“Look, I’m generally dumber than most of the rest of the government,” Nuland told reporters yesterday. “I mean, that’s what I’m paid to be.”
The comment drew a laugh, but Nuland was serious about not taking any more questions on the topic. “We’re not going to parse this any further,” she said sternly. “We’re just not.” (You can watch video of Nuland’s briefing above.
Let freedom Ring has a new ad explaining the possibility of very large fines hampering faith-based charities from aiding the poor due to the excessive fines levied by the HHS mandate. One such organization is Catholic Charities of Chicago which could face a fine of upto $5 million for violating Obama’s new HHS mandate. The mandate, which went into effect Aug. 1 as part of the health care reform law, requires all employers to provide coverage in their health care plans for contraceptives, including some that can cause abortions, and sterilizations.
That’s 2,700 employees X $2,000 fine per employee = $5.4 million

[Well, someone has to tell us the truth.... Shame on the mainstream media.]  Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter is coming under intense criticism from Republicans for saying the "entire reason" the attacks on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, had become a political topic was "because of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan."-

Romney: "I think today we got another indication of how President Obama and his campaign fail to grasp the seriousness of the challenges that we face here in America," Romney said at a rally in North Carolina.

The Republican nominee went on to quote Cutter's remarks, before turning them against the president.

"No, President Obama, it's an issue because this is the first time in thirty-three years that a United States Ambassador has been assassinated.

"Mr President, this is an issue because we were attacked successfully by terrorists on the anniversary of 9/11.

"President Obama, this is an issue because Americans wonder why it was it took so long for you and your administration to admit that this was a terrorist attack," Romney said, demanding "serious answers" for the American people.

But billionaire Thomas Peterffy is spending millions on television ads this election season with one cautionary message: Avoid socialism.

"I grew up in a socialist country and I have seen what that does to people. There is no hope, no freedom, no pride in achievement," he says with a soft Hungarian accent in the ad. "The nation became poorer and poorer, and that's what I see happening here."
Peterffy told CNN he expects to spend $5-$10 million on the ad buy, depending on its effectiveness. The spot will run on CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, and test markets in Ohio, Wisconsin, and possibly Florida.
The one-minute spot, which began airing Wednesday and will continue through Election Day, has no mention of any specific politician or lawmaker. It's simply a plea for an end to what he sees as growing hostility to personal success - and to vote Republican.
"America's wealth comes from the efforts of people striving for success. Take away their incentive with badmouthing success and you take away the wealth that helps us take care of the needy," he says in the commercial.
Peterffy was born in Budapest in 1944 during the deadly Soviet offensive that ended in the capture of Hungary's capital the following year. From then, the republic remained under communist control until it gained independence in 1989.
The new ad features images of Peterffy as a child in Hungary and the impoverished conditions in his native country.
"As a young boy, I was fantasizing about one day going to America, making a success of myself. The American Dream," he says.
"I’ve paid $1.9 billion in taxes in my lifetime, now I am being told that I am not contributing my fair share?" he said in an interview.
"When you trash the leaders of businesses, they stop working hard. They go on vacation," he continued. "I even see that within myself, I used to be proud of building Interactive Brokers. I would look forward to work each day. Now I’m being told I’m not doing my fair share."

Times/Bay News 9/Herald exclusive Florida poll: Romney 51, Obama 44

Here's what actually happened. The state did report weekly jobless claims but did not process and report its quarterly claims number (when many people have to reapply for benefits for technical reasons as opposed to being newly laid off). As a result, there wasn't the expected spike in claims that normally happens at the start of the quarter.

In other words, the drop of 30,000 last week had more to do with the lack of expected re-filings at the start of the fourth quarter than with any particular improvement in labor market conditions.
[The article linked to here is a good listing of exaggerations, misstatements and truths presented last night by both participants.] There were lots of feisty words and fishy facts in Thursday’s debate between Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan. Here are some quick highlights.

“We weren’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security.”
— Biden, speaking of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya
Biden’s bold statement was directly contradicted by State Department officials just this week, in testimony before a congressional panel and in unclassified cables released by a congressional committee.
“All of us at post were in sync that we wanted these resources,” said Eric Nordstrom, the top regional security officer in Libya earlier this year. A Utah national guardsman who led a security team, Lt. Col. Andrew Wood, said: “We felt great frustration that those requests were ignored or just never met.”
[This, from a classmate of Obama's at Columbia - read it all!] I believe that public knowledge of my face-to-face confrontation with young Obama's ideological extremism in 1980 would have helped prevent Obama's election in 2008.  My account of Obama's anticipation of a Communist revolution would have alerted voters to the reality that Obama is not a bipartisan politician, but rather a longstanding advocate of class warfare and other hateful ideas promoted earlier by the likes of Frank Marshall Davis.  My story would have highlighted the real Obama, the Obama who asserted, as he did at a at a Martin Luther King Day speech at the University of Chicago in 2002, "that rich people are all for non-violence" simply because "they want to make sure people don't take their stuff."
Lacking the option of time travel, I still think my story helps explain why it was fairly easy for Mitt Romney to defeat Barack Obama in a formal debate.  I can report that young Obama was no genius.  I saw signs of that young Obama last week when Romney pointed out that in 25 years in business, he had never seen a special tax break for corporations who send jobs overseas.  Obama -- without his teleprompter and entourage of liberal sycophants -- is apparently incapable of reacting forcefully to a verbal punch from a true business and political heavyweight.

President running roughshod over Constitution; 1.8Million private sectory employees laid off in August; Russia pulling out of dismantling nuclear weapons program; Obama went to debate moderator's wedding; The empty chair sybolism grows; Battery manufacturer takes our money and runs; No risk to shale development; No Sharia law in Kansas; MI ballot initiatives; Obama an Indonesian prince?; Throwing someone under the bus for Obama; Antarctic ice continues to grow

*President Barack Obama is running roughshod over the Constitution, legal scholars say, by disregarding it, changing laws outside the legislative process, and extending federal power in unprecedented ways.
The president has “profound disdain for the Constitution,” said David Rivkin, a lawyer at the BakerHostetler law firm in Washington, DC.
“Across a whole host of policy areas, President Obama and other high officials in his administration have pushed the envelope of anything attempted before,” said Ilya Shapiro, a constitutional expert at the Cato Institute. [In the coming days, I will be rerunning some of my list of 80 ways in which he has done this.]

The Private Sector is Not Doing Fine

BLS: 1.8M private sector employees laid off in August
In August, nearly 1.8 million private sector employees were laid off—up nearly 300,000 from July and nearly 100,000 from August 2011. Those layoffs came just two months after Obama proclaimed that “the private sector is doing fine” and attributed struggling job creation to government layoffs. [I don't remember seeing this statistic in the much touted falling unemployment figures.]
Russia’s government announced on Wednesday it is pulling out of the multi-billion dollar program Cooperative Threat Reduction program that since the early 1990s helped Moscow dismantle nuclear weapons and missiles, United States officials said.  [Meanwhile Obama continues to reduce our supply of nuclear weapons as a sign of good faith to a country which can't be trusted.]
Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced that it does not plan to extend the agreement with the U.S. when it expires next year.
President Barack Obama was a guest at the 1991 wedding of ABC senior foreign correspondent and vice presidential debate moderator Martha Raddatz, The Daily Caller has learned. Obama and groom Julius Genachowski, whom Obama would later tap to head the Federal Communications Commission, were Harvard Law School classmates at the time and members of the Harvard Law Review.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------A A friend in Texas told me of some local difficulties in getting big Romney lawn signs. Its possible there’s been a run on those signs since the first debate, and maybe local GOP organizations are running out. You know what Romney supporters who cant find lawn signs should do? Put an empty chair on the lawn instead. Just one big empty chair. Says it all. Says it better.
In the fall of 2010, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. — the state's "corporate welfare” arm — uploaded a video to YouTube highlighting the battery manufacturer A123 Systems.
At the time, the company was promoted heavily by President Barack Obama, U.S. Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow. Since then, A123 has shed money, laid off half its workforce, recalled products and seen its stock price plummet to about 26 cents this week from a previous high of $26.
Now, just two years after the initial roll-out, A123 is being acquired by a Chinese company. Shortly after this deal was rumored a few weeks ago, the MEDC made all of its promotional videos “private.” This is not the first time questions have been raised about the MEDC’s lack of transparency.
The company is a poster child of government subsidies for green energy initiatives. Michigan gave A123 Systems $100 million in MEGA tax credits and another $41 million in tax breaks and subsidies from a separate program. At the same time, the Department of Energy awarded A123 Systems a $249.1 million grant as part of the federal "stimulus program."
A new report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) examines the relative risks of shale development and hydraulic fracturing, using existing research as its guide. Unfortunately for opponents who have invested so much time stating otherwise, GAO finds no evidence of hydraulic fracturing fluids migrating from depth up into groundwater.
Granted, GAO wasn’t conducting an original investigative report, but rather aggregating research that’s been done to date. For that reason, the report did not make conclusions or recommendations on the topics it examined. Nonetheless, its findings are instructive in the broader discussion about hydraulic fracturing, specifically as it pertains to groundwater.
Here are a few excerpts worth highlighting:
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback has signed a law aimed at keeping the state's courts or government agencies from basing decisions on Islamic or other foreign legal codes, and a national Muslim group's spokesman said Friday that a court challenge is likely.
For those in Michigan: If Proposal 4 passes on Nov. 6, the forced unionization of tens of thousands of home-based caregivers in Michigan would be locked into the state constitution, allowing the Service Employees International Union to continue skimming millions of dollars in dues from Medicaid stipends meant to help Michigan’s most vulnerable residents, according to a new study by the Mackinac Center for Public Policy.
More for Michigan voters: Proposal 2, a ballot measure that Michigan voters will consider on Nov. 6, would allow collective bargaining agreements reached by teachers and school officials to override existing and future state laws.
If teachers unions hold sway at the bargaining table, the passage of Proposal 2 would likely result in a rollback of state reforms designed to address sprawling pension and health care costs.
But it appears that these same powers could also be used to negotiate away teacher tenure and certification requirements.
State law is what allows Michigan teachers to achieve tenure. Michigan state law is also what limits the hiring of teachers who are not certified by the state. Furthermore, state law also limits how school districts can fire or demote tenured teachers.
The group supporting Proposal 2, the collective bargaining ballot initiative, lists on its website five states that outlaw public employee collective bargaining for teachers and says those states perform "among the worst in the nation" on standardized test scores.
The problem? Michigan scores lower than all five of those states on the most widely-taken standardized test.

This week, PBS’s “Frontline” published the transcript from a June 27, 2012 interview with Kristen Caldwell, a woman who grew up with President Barack Obama and attended the Punahou School with him in Honolulu, Hawaii. Among other claims, she told PBS that, as a young child, Obama told his classmates that he was Kenyan royalty or an Indonesian prince — fascinating claims that she discussed in great detail.-
“I can picture him as this slightly — “chubby” is too strong, but rounded, short little guy, Barry Obama,” Caldwell said. “And he told us that his father was an Indonesian king and that he was a prince, and after he finished school he was going to go back, and he would be a ruler in Indonesia.”
“My sister and I remember very clearly that he was an Indonesian prince and that he would be going back there,” she continued. “So there was some reference to where he had come from, and the understanding was his family was there.”
Mere hours after the attack — purposefully timed on the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York and Washington — the nation’s spooks knew that al-Qaeda had just opened up a new front in its long battle against America and the West. Heck, the nation’s schoolchildren knew that, too. And yet the administration persisted in peddling its ludicrous YouTube story — and throwing an American citizen in jail for the crime of spitting on the sidewalk.
Now, it seems, that Team Obama has decided to try and save U.N. ambassador Susan Rice — whose reputation in the IC could hardly be lower — and perhaps press secretary Jay Carney as well by tossing the nation’s spooks under the bus, in which direction they’re also nudging Hillary Clinton.
Antarctic sea ice has expanded to cover the largest area recorded since satellite mapping began more than three decades ago. The expansion continues a trend of increasing Antarctic sea ice cover of about 1 per cent a decade and is at odds with predictions of climate change models that continue to forecast a long-term decline.

Congressman Dr. Dan Benishek visited Charlevoix yesterday, joining supporters at the Weathervane for lunch.
Congressman Benishek's Communications Director is Raffi Williams, son of Fox News' Juan Williams.  Juan is right to be very proud of him.  We all enjoyed meeting him.
A man who lost a son to the war in Afghanistan is disappointed in the condolence letter he received from President Barack Obama.
Tom Logan, a Willis resident, calls the note late, impersonal, disrespectful and essentially a form letter.
"It opened up a wound in our heart you can't fix. You can't send another letter. You can't make it right," Logan said.

Local 2 Investigates examined two other letters sent by Obama to families of soldiers killed in action. The one-page typed condolence letters were identical other than names, ranks and service branches.
Young examined the letter written to Tom Logan, which arrived by UPS truck four months after his son's death.  Young said that it appears Obama's predecessor, George W. Bush, wrote more personal, individualized, sometimes hand-written notes to the families of soldiers.

Darden tests limiting worker hours as health-care changes loom,0,1505128.story

David Siegel, the founder and CEO of real estate company Westgate Resorts on Monday threatened to fire some employees if Barack Obama is reelected and carries out his plan to raise taxes on the so-called rich.  [ The letter is worth reading.  As in a popular joke, I wonder if he has already cruised the parking lot to find the OBAMA/Biden bumper stickers].

On the Tuesday broadcast of the nightly Nevada political program "Ralston Reports," Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts sat down with host Jon Ralston to discuss the presidential election.

Wynn, an outspoken critic of President Obama, didn't hold back in his latest criticism of the incumbent president seeking a second term.

"I'll be damned if I want to have him lecture me about small business and jobs. I'm a job creator. Guys like me are job creators and we don't like having a bulls-eye painted on our back," Wynn said about Obama to Ralston. An excerpt of the interview is below.
WYNN: I've created about 250,000 direct and indirect jobs according to the state of Nevada's measurement. If the number is 250,000, that's exactly 250,000 more than this president, who I'll be damned if I want to have him lecture me about small business and jobs. I'm a job creator. Guys like me are job creators and we don't like having a bulls-eye painted on our back.

The president is trying to put himself between me and my employees. By class warfare, by deprecating and calling a group that makes money 'billionaires and millionaires who don't pay their share.' I gave 120% of my salary and bonus away last year to charities, as I do most years. I can't stand the idea of being demagogued, that is put down by a president who has never created any jobs and who doesn't even understand how the economy works.

*White House Comes Clean: No Protest Outside Libya Consulate

In other words, absolutely everything we were told by our government -- by President Obama, Secretary of State Clinton, Ambassador Susan Rice. White House Spokesman Jay Carney, and any number of staffers and surrogates -- was 100% false.
There were no protests, no benign crowds exploited by local militias, and nothing had anything to do with a video. Our Ambassador, another diplomat, and two Navy SEALs  were murdered in a brutally efficient and coordinated terrorist attack.
According to the White House website, there’s been no full-fledged “face the nation”-style televised press briefing in more than two weeks.  Bummer, if so, because I’d sure like to hear more about this
Less than two months before the fatal attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department concluded that the risk of violence to diplomats and other Americans in Libya was high and that the weak U.S.-backed government in Tripoli could do little about it.
“The risk of U.S. Mission personnel, private U.S. citizens and businesspersons encountering an isolating event as a result of militia or political violence is HIGH,” a State Department security assessment from July 22 concludes.
The department approved a 30 percent “danger pay” bonus for Americans working in Libya during the summer, according to documents released by Congress on Tuesday.
The department’s former top security officer told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that he had recommended keeping U.S. military and additional State Department security forces on hand through October, documents released by the committee show.
“The [Libyan government] was overwhelmed and could not guarantee our protection,” former regional security officer Eric A. Nordstrom wrote Oct. 1.

Bin Laden is Dead, Al Qaeda is Alive

Far from ‘decimated,’ terrorist group gathers strength.
President Barack Obama’s campaign continues to claim that it has “decimated” al Qaeda, the world’s most notorious terror group, despite increasing evidence the group is expanding and despite an al Qaeda attack that left four Americans, including an ambassador, dead.
On Monday, team Obama hailed what they claim is the president’s successful eradication of al Qaeda.
“Obama’s national security record—ending the Iraq war, decimating al Qaeda, restoring our standing abroad,” stated a message sent from the Obama campaign’s official Twitter account.
[It is my contention that the very fact that an American President with a totally Muslim name who uses as his campaign point of pride that GM is alive and Osama Bin Laden is dead is reason enough for Muslims to think of him as the worst of infidels.]
Unhappy with President Barack  Obama‘s support of same-sex marriage, a group of African-American faith  leaders have announced a campaign aimed at stripping 25 percent of the black  vote that went to in 2008 (95 percent).
The newly formed nonprofit group, God Said, will begin targeting voters in  Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, Wisconsin and Florida with television and radio  advertising, as well as a grassroots campaign to encourage people to consider  the gospel when they enter the voting booth.

Obama to DeGeneres on Why He Opposed Individual Mandate: Forcing Uninsured to Buy Insurance Is Like Forcing Homeless to Buy Homes

WASHINGTON – A radical jihadist group responsible for nearly 50 attacks on American soil is operating 35 terrorist training camps across the nation, but the U.S. government refuses to include the organization on the State Department’s list of foreign terrorists.

Jamaat ul-Fuqra, known in the U.S. as “Muslims of America,” has purchased or leased hundreds of acres of property – from New York to California – in which the leader, Sheikh Mubarak Gilani, boasts of conducting “the most advanced training courses in Islamic military warfare.”

In a recruitment video captured from Gilani’s “Soldiers of Allah,” he states in English: “We are fighting to destroy the enemy. We are dealing with evil at its roots and its roots are America.”

Though Gilani and his organization is suspected of committing assassinations and firebombings inside the U.S., and is also suspected of the beheading murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, the terrorist camps spread through the country continue to expand in numbers and population.

The Government Accountability Institute (GAI), a non-partisan investigative and research watchdog group, announced today the release of a 108-page report entitled: "America the Vulnerable: Are Foreign and Fraudulent Online Campaign Contributions Influencing U.S. Elections?,” the first in a series regarding the impact of the Internet on American elections.  The report reveals that over an eight-month investigation, GAI discovered President Obama’s campaign website, along with nearly half of congressional websites, lack some of the common, industry-standard security measures used by most e-commerce websites.  In addition, the report found that the Obama campaign has actively solicited donations from foreign nationals.
The report found almost half (47.3%) of congressional campaign donation websites lack anti-fraud credit card security systems common on most e-commerce websites.  As for Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign, the research found his website does maintain the proper security measures.
Obama Campaign Lacks the Industry-Standard Level Of Credit Card Security For Donations, But Uses It For Merchandise Purchases: To purchase Obama campaign merchandise, the campaign requires buyers to enter their credit card CVV security code, but does not require the credit card security code to be entered when making an online campaign donation. By GAI’s estimates, the Obama campaign’s failure to utilize industry-standard protections potentially costs the campaign millions in extra processing fees.
The issue arose again when the Obama Administration alleged, during the 2010 elections, that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Republican Super PACs were bankrolled by foreigners. David Axelrod led the charge, but mustered no proof for his case; rather, he demanded that the Chamber prove it was not funded by foreigners.
As Phil notes, the reason for the drop in unemployment is not that people have suddenly gone out and found a bunch of new full time jobs. It’s that part time workers have given up looking for full time work and are now considering their part time jobs to be full time.
Given the way Hollywood touts itself as the bastion for tolerance, you’d think someone willing to speak a minority opinion would be praised as brave. Considering the only actors who have had the courage to come out as conservatives are untouchable legends in the entertainment industry, like Clint Eastwood and Jon Voight.
CSI Actress Stacey Dash was the victim of such “tolerance” this weekend when she sent out a tweet supporting Mitt Romney for President of the United States. “Not long after, obvious Obama supporters began insulting her for her opinion saying she isn’t black enough,” Stu said. “Several even asking if the actress would just kill herself.  One man wrote, ‘this hurts you, being a Romney‑lover, and you slutting yourself to the white man only proves why no black man married you’.” [Aren't liberals oh, so tolerant and nice?]
Attending a star-studded concert that included the likes of Katy Perry and Stevie Wonder where money was raised money for his campaign, President Obama said "everybody here is incredible professionals, they're such great friends and they just perform flawlessly, night after night."
"I can't always say the same," the President said to laughter from the crowd at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Poll finds Romney with 40-point lead among active, reserve military troops

The survey found Romney with a wide 66-26 lead that is similar to the advantage enjoyed by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) over Obama in the 2008 race.

A backroom deal hatched by General Motors during the auto bailout to fulfill the Obama administration’s demand for a quick bankruptcy could be reversed, draining the automaker of nearly all of its cash on hand and leaving it in worse shape than it was when it collapsed in 2009.
As GM teetered on the edge of bankruptcy in June 2009, it cut a $367 million “lock-up agreement” with several major creditors in order to prevent its Canadian subsidiary from going under. The move spared the subsidiary from fulfilling the $1 billion debt it owed the creditors—major hedge funds—ensuring that GM would not have to face bankruptcy courts in two nations, which could have delayed the company’s recovery.
The trustee for (old GM) creditors shortchanged by the government-driven bankruptcy are now suing the hedge funds in a move that could undo the bailout.
Industry experts say GM should be very concerned with the judge’s reaction to the deal.
“The judge has made it very clear that he is greatly dissatisfied with the process,” one analyst said. “He’s basically implying that GM hid it from him and that reopening the sale is a possibility.”
If the court decides to reopen the bailout, new GM could cease to exist, according to the bankruptcy expert. Its stock would be removed from all stock exchanges and the company would have to repay the $27 billion it owes the federal government—a major problem considering the company has just over $30 billion in cash.
A wireless company profiting from the so-called “Obama phone” giveaway program is run by a prominent Democratic donor whose wife has raised more than $1.5 million for the president since 2007.
Last week a video of a President Barack Obama supporter in Ohio claiming to have received a free phone from the president—“[Obama] gave us a phone!”—went viral, prompting media outlets to investigate.
Florida Republicans are outraged after a school district allowed a pro-Obama organization to conduct student voter registration drives and deliver speeches to classes – but denied the Romney campaign similar opportunities.

Pasco County Schools confirmed to Fox News that volunteers from Organizing For America were given access to as many as a half dozen high school and middle school campuses.
“They did register students to vote,” spokesman John Mann told Fox News. “We don’t know how many children were registered – (but) we have an ongoing investigation.”

In addition to voter registration, a former teacher was allowed to deliver Obama speeches to a number of senior high school students.
“She got into six classrooms and gave pro-Obama speeches – like way off to the left,” said James Mathieu, general counsel for the Pasco County Republican Party. “That got out to parents and parents complained.”
Matthieu told Fox News he has filed a complained with the Florida Division of Elections and also contacted the Florida Attorney General’s office.
The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45 lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October. Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing.
Romney's favorables are above Obama's now. Yes, you read that right. Romney's favorables are higher than Obama's right now. That gender gap that was Obama's firewall? Over in one night:
Among Independents, Romney won by an astounding 78-14 margin.
The great Thomas Sowell writes: Innumerable facts, however, show that it is our Commander in Chief who is Phony in Chief. A classic example was his speech to a predominantly black audience at Hampton University on June 5, 2007. That date is important, as we shall see.
In his speech -- delivered in a ghetto-style accent that Obama doesn't use anywhere except when he is addressing a black audience -- he charged the federal government with not showing the same concern for the people of New Orleans after hurricane Katrina hit as they had shown for the people of New York after the 9/11 attacks, or the people of Florida after hurricane Andrew hit.
Unlike Jeremiah Wright's church, the U.S. Senate keeps a record of who was there on a given day. The Congressional Record for May 24, 2007 shows Senator Barack Obama present that day and voting on the bill that waived the Stafford Act requirement. Moreover, he was one of just 14 Senators who voted against -- repeat, AGAINST -- the legislation which included the waiver.
When he gave that demagogic speech, in a feigned accent and style, it was world class chutzpah and a rhetorical triumph. He truly deserves the title Phony in Chief.
If you know any true believers in Obama, show them the transcript of his June 5, 2007 speech at Hampton University (available from the Federal News Service) and then show them page S6823 of the Congressional Record for May 24, 2007, which lists which Senators voted which way on the waiver of the Stafford Act requirement for New Orleans.
Last week's presidential debate revealed one area of agreement between the candidates: We need more teachers. "Let's hire another hundred thousand math and science teachers," proposed President Obama, adding that "Governor Romney doesn't think we need more teachers."
Mr. Romney quickly replied, "I reject the idea that I don't believe in great teachers or more teachers." He just opposes earmarking federal dollars for this purpose, believing instead that "every school district, every state should make that decision on their own."
Let's hope state and local officials have that discretion—and choose to shrink the teacher labor force rather than expand it. Hiring hundreds of thousands of additional teachers won't improve student achievement. It will bankrupt state and local governments, whose finances are already buckling under bloated payrolls with overly generous and grossly underfunded pension and health benefits.
Students in the Denver Public Schools need to know reading, writing and ‘rithmetic, but what about the fourth “r” — revolution?
District officials have scrambled to respond to a public outcry over language in the new teacher-assessment criteria that describes a “distinguished” teacher as one who “encourages students to challenge and question the dominant culture” and “take social action to change/improve society or work for social justice.”
After critics challenged the language, calling it more suitable to an Occupy Wall Street manifesto than a public-schools document, the district revised the standards by eliminating references to the “dominant culture” and “social change.”
The updated language says a top teacher “encourages students to think critically about equity and bias in society, and to understand and question historic and prevailing currents of thought as well as dissenting and diverse viewpoints,” and “cultivates students’ ability to understand and openly discuss drivers of, and barriers to, opportunity and equity in society.”
“Let’s face it, in DPS, roughly 50 percent of the children across the board can’t even read at grade level. In math it’s the same, sometimes worse,” Ms. Benigno said. “And yet they’re going to spend time and have teachers being concerned about these types of issues.”
