Put me in charge; Obama's jobs speech

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX  Nov 18, 2010

Put me in charge . . ..

Put me in charge of food stamps.  I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for
Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away.  If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid.  The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings.  If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?  You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair.  Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried.  If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job.  It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you.  We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary.  If you want our money, accept our rules.  Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self-esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self-esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices.  The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND While you are on Gov’t subsistence, you no longer can VOTE!  Yes that is correct.  For you to vote would be a conflict of interest.  You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov’t welfare check.  If you want to vote, then get a job.

In his speech to a joint session of Congress, Barack Hussein Obama did not present a jobs plan; he left a suicide note.
Obama and the Democrats are in the final stages of a self-destruct sequence, while Republicans passively sit by America’s deathbed like Dr. Kevorkian.
Regarding the situation in which we find ourselves, no one should be surprised. Obama never shared the experience and values of ordinary Americans.

His vision of America was shaped by Marxist anti-colonialism, the radical philosophy of unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers, the avarice of predatory financier George Soros and the corrupt politics of the Chicago machine.
Obama, his mentors and acolytes seek not a strong, prosperous and free America, but a weak, fragmented, subservient and pitiful remnant as his testament to and trophy of the last gasp of Western democracy.
So, to protect their personal power and wealth, they will ignore any questions about Obama’s crimes and suppress any attempt by ordinary Americans like the Tea Party to make government officials accountable to the people.

We have an elective dictatorship, where, for people like Nancy Pelosi, elections are disagreeable formalities to maintain them as politicians-for-life.

Unfortunately for the political establishment, Obama and his team of ideological nitwits keep committing blunder after blunder, Americans are getting angrier by the minute and the politicians’ lucrative gravy train of tax dollars and borrowed cash are about to dry up.

Dear President Obama

"We  can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are  conscious of our treasures." - Thornton Wild

This  venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in  Hawaii
for  his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and  causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in  his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official,  until now. He dictated this letter  to a friend, signed it and  mailed it to the president.

Dear  President Obama,
My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this  year.  People meeting me for the first time don't believe my age  because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally  alert.

I  enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during  and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos'n Mate.  Now I  live in a "rest home" located on the western end of Pearl Harbor ,  allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my  country.

One  of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind,  blunt and direct even to the head man.

So  here goes.

I am  amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do,  but you seem hell bent not to grant me that  wish.

I can't figure out what country  you are the president of.  You fly around the world telling our  friends and enemies despicable lies like:
            " We're no longer a Christian nation"
" America is arrogant" - (Your wife even
announced to the world," America is mean-
spirited. " Please tell her to try preaching
that nonsense to 23 generations of our
war dead buried all over the globe who
died for no other reason than to free a
whole lot of strangers from tyranny and
I'd  say shame on the both of you, but I don't think you like America, nor  do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious  gifts this country has given you.  To be without shame or  gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White  House.

After  9/11 you said," America hasn't lived up to her  ideals."

Which  ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000  farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the  British?  Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to  another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?  I hope  you didn't mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a  lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real  strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand  for freedom.

I  don't think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than  discrimination.  You know the one that a whole lot of white  people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take  a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape  up and start acting like an American.  If you don't, I'll do what  I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania  Avenue ..  You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss  the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their  people like slaves.

And  just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump  to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his  fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don't want us to  do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black  college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight?   You don't mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don't  want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are,  terrorists.

One  more thing..  I realize you never served in the military and never  had to defend your country with your life, but you're the  Commander-in-Chief now, son.  Do your job.  When your  battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to  complete the mission, give them to him.  But if you're not in  this fight to win, then get out.  The life of one American  soldier is not worth the best political strategy you're thinking  of.

You  could be our greatest president because you face the greatest  challenge ever presented to any president.
You're  not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated  economy.  That's not our greatest threat.  Losing the heart  and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight  now.

And I  sure as hell don't want to think my president is the enemy in this  final battle...

$852 million loan guarantee to yet another green project company; Obama lie about middle class jobs; Four year limit on welfare in Michigan; Obamacare to make health insurance more expensive; Cancer scans rationed in UK; Union leaders on Air Force One for Labor Day rally; Obama's words come back to bite him once again; Sarasota family skedaddled 2 weeks prior to 9/11; $295 million in healthcare fraud found; Operation Gunwalker probe reaching into White House; Blinding attack by Chinese; ACLU challenges Florida law requiring drug testing for welfare recipients

The Washington Times reports: Last week, the Obama administration’s Department of Energy announced it is extending an $852 million loan guarantee to something called the Genesis Solar Project in California.
Genesis, according to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, will be built on federal land and ultimately employ perhaps 800 people during its construction and 47 people once it is up and running. This would seem to be a lot of money to generate very few jobs at a time when the nation is on the verge of bankruptcy, but the project really isn’t about jobs.
Commentary Magazine writes: As Alana just wrote, two days ago, President Obama made this claim: “We said working folks deserved a break, so within one month of me taking office, we signed into law the biggest middle-class tax cut in history, putting more money into your pockets.” Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post’s fact-checker, calls that claim “ridiculous” and a “whopper,” which is a colloquial way of saying Obama’s claim is a lie.
Perhaps this is what a desperate president does at times like these. But Obama needs to be careful; if he isn’t, the public will not only turn on him because of his manifest incompetence (which Americans are doing in rather large numbers these days), but also because of his deeply flawed public character.

More and more these days, the president’s rhetoric can be fairly judged to be cynical, hypocritical and untrue. Even the Washington Post says so.
Yahoo reports: Gov. Rick Snyder on Tuesday signed into law a stricter, four-year lifetime limit on cash welfare benefits, prompting advocates for the poor to warn that tens of thousands of residents will find themselves without cash assistance on Oct. 1.
Michigan's first-year Republican chief executive said the state will offer exemptions to the limit for those with a disability who can't work, those who care for a disabled spouse or child and those who are 65 or older and don't qualify for Social Security benefits or receive very low benefits.
Some recipients who are the victims of domestic violence also may be temporarily exempted.
"We are returning cash assistance to its original intent as a transitional program to help families while they work toward self-sufficiency,"

The UK Express writes:  Cancer scans are being rationed by family doctors as health bosses order GPs to save money, it emerged last night.[Snip]Instead, they are being told to pass the patients on to consultant doctors who will then decide if an ultrasound, MRI or CT scan is needed. Health experts warned last night that the extra referral was putting patients' lives at risk by causing potentially deadly delays.

Politico writes: Part of a speech Obama gave in 2010 to the United Nations General Assembly is featured in an ad aimed to rally support for the Palestinians upcoming bid for statehood at the United Nations on Sept. 20, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

“When we come back here next year, we can have an agreement that can lead to a new member of the United Nations, an independent, sovereign state of Palestine living in peace with Israel,” Obama said in the 2010 speech in the clip that is played in the radio ad.
The Palestinians use of the remarks is at odds with the Obama administration’s current all-out push to stop the Palestinians from pursuing their statehood bid.

The Denver Post writes: Just two weeks before the 9/11 hijackers slammed into the Pentagon and World Trade Center, members of a Saudi family abruptly vacated their luxury home near Sarasota, Fla., leaving a brand new car in the driveway, a refrigerator full of food, fruit on the counter — and an open safe in the master bedroom.
In the weeks to follow, law enforcement agents not only discovered the home was visited by vehicles used by the hijackers, but also phone calls were linked between the home and those who carried out the death flights — including leader Mohamed Atta — in discoveries never before revealed to the public.
Ten years after the deadliest attack of terrorism on U.S. soil, new information has emerged that shows the FBI found troubling ties between the hijackers and residents in the upscale community in southwest Florida, but the investigation wasn't reported to Congress or mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report.
For Graham, the connections between the hijackers and residents raise questions about whether other Saudi nationals in Florida knew of the impending attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people.
The FBI investigation began the month after 9/11 when Larry Berberich, senior administrator and security officer of the gated community known as Prestancia, reported a bizarre event that took place two weeks before the hijackings.

Asian Age reports: At least 9 Indian medical professionals are among 90 people charged in the US in a massive healthcare fraud under which false claims to the tune of USD 295 million were submitted to public insurance provider.
A nationwide takedown by 'Medicare Fraud Strike Force' operations in eight cities resulted in charges against 91 defendants for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud schemes, the US Justice Department said today.
"The defendants charged in this takedown are accused of stealing precious taxpayer resources and defrauding Medicare -- jeopardising the integrity of our healthcare system and our nation's most critical healthcare programme for personal gain," Attorney General Eric Holder said.
According to court documents, the defendants allegedly participated in schemes to submit claims to Medicare for treatments that were medically unnecessary and often never provided.
In several cases, patient recruiters and other co-conspirators were paid cash kickbacks in return for supplying information to providers, who then submitted fraudulent billing to Medicare for services that were unnecessary or never provided.
From Brooklyn to Miami to Los Angeles, the defendants allegedly treated the Medicare programme like a "personal piggy bank", Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer said.

Late last Friday, CBS News and the Los Angeles Times almost buried the news that Restrepo, the National Security Council's top man for Latin America, and two other officials, were in on ATF memos from the Gunwalker operation called "Fast and Furious."
That blows apart White House claims that it had no idea the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was encouraging frontmen for Mexico's cartels to buy weapons from U.S. gun dealers — to "trace" them afterward.
The Washington Times reports: A Chinese warship fired a high-powered beam of light that disrupted the vision of crew members aboard a U.S. Navy surveillance ship operating in international waters in 2008.
According to a newly released State Department cable, the apparent blinding attack on the USNS Victorious, an ocean survey ship, occurred in the East China Sea.
“On March 8, 2008, [Chinese] Luhu-class DD112 shined a high-intensity, narrow-beam white light at USNS Victorious for approximately 30 minutes,” the cable, labeled “secret,” said.
“The light was of such intensity that it temporarily impaired the visual acumen of USNS Victorious personnel and thereby constituted a hazard to navigation.”
The East China Sea incident appears similar to a laser attack carried out in 1997 by someone aboard a Russian merchant ship. The attack damaged the eyes of Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jack Daly, who was conducting an aerial reconnaissance mission aboard a Canadian military helicopter over the Strait of Juan de Fuca in Washington state’s Puget Sound.
[This reminds me of the incident when a cruise ship was totally disabled and needed to be towed to shore within the last year.] The Washington Times wrote: The following information paints a picture that could very easily lead to WW3! The new and recent information that is being reported and released seems to indicate that the cruise ship that was disabled just a few days ago was actually disabled due to an EMP attack by a Chinese sub.
The missile that was then fired and seen throughout California was a response to the Chinese for their actions on this cruise ship.
Doesn't it seem strange that all power would be out on the ship?? It has even been reported that even cell phones were not operational. Everything from the first hand accounts of these passengers on this ship seem to indicate an EMP blast that knocked out the ALL power on board that ship.
Also, why was it that the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan was sent out accompanied by other vessels to this cruise ship?? The media will never tell you this..

Illegal aliens garner $4.2 billion from Additional Child Tax Credits last year; U.S. troops in Iraq to drop to 3000; Professors say Tea Party harbors racial hostility; City sewer worker makes more than mayor, police commissioner and schools chancellor- combined; Even Robert Redford sours on Obama; New video games "Tea Party Zombies Must Die"; Some Republicans to skip Obama address; Obama may not be up to the task; A new war threatens America, one from within; Green energy company bankruptcy once again puts taxpayers at the end of the line

Redstate opines: Throughout the entire debt ceiling imbroglio, Democrats incessantly regurgitated the talking point about the need for “a balanced approach.”
Well, it turns out that illegal aliens, most of which pay zero in net taxes, enjoyed $4.2 billion from the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) last year.  That’s more than the annual revenue from the selected oil tax deductions and corporate jet deductions combined!
Yesterday, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Collection released a shocking report detailing how illegal aliens are able to utilize a filing loophole to obtain billions in ACTC funds.  The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and ACTC (unlike the base child tax credit) are totally refundable and can award the recipient with a negative tax balance.  Appropriations for the EITC in FY 2010 were $54.7 billion and $28.3 billion for the ACTC.  While EITC appropriations are protected from illegals (those who don’t engage in identity theft) because they are only awarded to those who provide a valid Social Security number, the same cannot be said for the ACTC.
Although the law prohibits aliens residing without authorization in the United States from receiving most Federal public benefits, an increasing number of these individuals are filing tax returns claiming the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), a refundable tax credit intended for working families.  The payment of Federal funds through this tax benefit appears to provide an additional incentive for aliens to enter, reside, and work in the United States without authorization, which contradicts Federal law and policy to remove such incentives. The Brooklyn father of three said the one-shot windfall - which made him the top earner among city employees last year - made up for 16 years he went without a raise.
Newsbusters opines: Barack Obama's Hope and Change ether appears to be wearing off on Robert Redford.
On Friday evening, the Oscar-winning actor and environmental activist published a rather scathing piece at the Huffington Post about the man Hollywood blindly put all its faith behind in 2008:
One reason I supported President Obama is because he said we must protect clean air, water and lands. But what good is it to say the right thing unless you act on it?  Since early August, three administration decisions -- on Arctic drilling, the Keystone XL pipeline and the ozone that causes smog -- have all favored dirty industry over public health and a clean environment. Like so many others, I'm beginning to wonder just where the man stands.

Yahoo News reports: When President Obama delivers his address on a new job-creation plan to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, he won't be speaking to a sold-out crowd. Several lawmakers are still determining whether it is worth their time to stay in Washington to hear the president, and some are already planning to skip it. Republican Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia is the latest to announce that he will not be attending, and will instead watch the speech from his office across the street. During the speech, Broun will post his comments about Obama's remarks on Twitter, a tradition he keeps during State of the Union addresses.
Broun remained in his office during Obama's State of the Union address in January, providing his own commentary on the social networking website throughout the speech.
"Mr. President, you don't believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism," one of Broun's tweets read.
Illinois Republican Rep. Joe Walsh was the first to announce his intentional absence last week, saying he didn't want to act as a "prop" for Obama's speech.
In the upper chamber, South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, a member of the Senate Tea Party Caucus, told Jon Karl of ABC News that he "probably" won't show up either.

NY Daily News opines: -President Obama is running out of time to remedy a threat far more lethal to his political survival than a cratering economy - a growing perception he just isn't up to the task.
A Daily News survey of party officials, campaign strategists and political consultants reveals that Obama is perilously close to being tuned out.
"People simply don't have much confidence that the President has either the experience or the credibility to make a difference in the economy," one of his most stalwart supporters told The News.
American Thinker opines: A new war that threatens to unravel American society may be brewing.  The war has already been openly and publicly declared.  Not by a foreign enemy or even a terrorist organization, but by members of the United States Congress.  By union leaders.  And by the vice president of the United States.
Even while successfully implementing the most radical leftist agenda this country has ever known, Barack Obama, the Messiah of the radical, socialist left, has taken some big body blows.  Frustrated, disillusioned, and angry, the liberal wing of the Democratic party is becoming unhinged day by day as they witness the meltdown.  They believe Obama caved to Republicans on the debt deal.  He caved on taxing the rich.  He caved on new smog regulations, and, embarrassingly, he caved to House Speaker John Boehner when attempting to schedule a speech to a joint session of Congress on the same evening as a Republican presidential debate.  In the midst of plummeting poll numbers, Obama has been behaving like a beaten man.  He still talks the talk, but the left is petrified that their man is not capable of walking the walk, and that he's all but ready to cave once again and virtually concede the 2012 presidential election to those evil Republicans.
While California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters screams that the "TEA Party can go straight to hell," mainstream media outlets say little.  Waters theorized that banks might behave differently if they were surrounded by angry citizens demanding their money -- in effect, advocating a run on banks.  She later threatened to tax banks out of business if they did not provide loan modifications to keep people in their homes.  Mainstream media reports?  Just listen for the crickets.

American Thinker reports: [Solyndra is the green energy company which recently declared bankruptcy after taking $535 million in Stimulus funds] Administration put taxpayers at the back of the line for Solyndra assets.  But the latest revelation is especially appalling. Instead of cutting our losses, the administration double-downed and willfully subordinated taxpayers' claims to the money behind those of Solyndra's private investors.

Obama's Labor Day speech in Detroit; Hoffa calls for "taking these sons of b...... out"; No rebuke or comment from President; Democrat followers have been convinced: Rubio comments on growth of government; Post Offices will default without taxpayer dollars; On 9/11, Muslims in London will demonstrate to declare U.S. defeated; President talks tough, but has no plan; Florida students must pull up their pants; Amazon would create thousands of CA jobs in order to avoid new Internet sales tax law

Hap Blog reports: Vice-President Joe Biden At AFL-CIO Rally: "You Are The Only Folks Keeping The Barbarians From the Gates" (Video)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Teamsters RealClearPolitics adds: President Jimmy Hoffa had some profane, combative words for Republicans while warming up the crowd for President Obama in Detroit, Michigan on Monday.
"We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They've got a war, they got a war with us and there's only going to be one winner. It's going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We're going to win that war," Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.
"President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let's take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong," Hoffa added.

Moments after Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa Jr. declared the labor movement the "army" in a war against the tea party and rallying a Labor Day crowd to "take these sons of bitches out", President Obama thanked Hoffa and declared how proud he was of him. bitches
The Daily Mail opines: Jimmy Hoffa got his job as Teamster president the old-fashioned way: He inherited from his father who had the misfortune of being offed by mobsters. On Labor Day, the AFL-CIO and the Teamsters decided for irony’s sake to rally in Detroit, a town ruined by the UAW, and the SEIU loaned them President Obama to serve as their main speaker.
I am curious as to whom they plan to take America back from. Themselves? The unions and the Democratic Party won it all in 2008 and afterward they confiscated GM and divvied up much of $500 billion (the spending part of the stimulus) among themselves in the cynical pursuit of the almighty buck.
Seattle EPI  writes: A tea party group called on President Barack Obama to rebuke Teamsters President Jim Hoffa for urging him to use supporters at a Labor Day rally as an army to march and "take out" tea partyers, describing the remarks as "a call for violence."
Obama was not on stage at the Detroit rally when Hoffa made the remarks Monday. The White House declined to comment on the flap.

American Thinker opines:  I've only recently come to realize the nature of the hurdle this country faces in trying to turn around a stalled economy and horrendous deficit.  Here it is: liberal Democrat politicians have completely convinced huge numbers of their followers that our economic/fiscal mess is the result of two principal demons: 1) "the rich," and 2) the Tea Party.  The former, of course, has been a longtime liberal scapegoat; the latter is a new one.

I can't begin to try to recount the angry emails I got from liberals insisting that the reasons for our deficits/debt problem is not over-spending by the federal government, but greed by wealthy people who don't pay "their fair share" of income taxes and by dastardly "racist" "terrorists" in the Tea Party.  And, yes, I actually got emails (many of them) from people insisting that Tea Party members are "terrorists."  It is astonishing to see, but it's absolutely true that when Democratic Party officials mouth charges like this, they are immediately accepted and repeated by their followers.  It's very dispiriting.  And to observe an American public, only 10 years removed from September 11, somehow equating Tea Party members with "terrorists" leaves me almost speechless and hopeless.
Townhall writes: Florida’s young Republican Senator Marco Rubio gave an important speech at the Reagan Presidential Library in California that has set off the liberal talking head universe.
He had the temerity to suggest that the huge growth in government’s role in American life over the last century “actually weakened us as a people.”
Fox News reports: The head of the U.S. Postal Service said in an interview that the organization will default -- perhaps as early as this winter -- unless Congress intervenes.
But he said Congress needs to step in to help keep the service alive.
"Our situation is extremely serious," he told The New York Times. "If Congress doesn't act, we will default."
According to The New York Times, the service will be unable to make a $5.5 billion retiree health care payment later this month and is expected to run out of money to pay workers and other expenses early next year. This could force a shutdown in delivery.
Averting that outcome doesn't necessarily mean a bailout. One thing the service wants from Congress is a law to effectively nullify a contract prohibition on layoffs -- part of Donahoe's plan involves laying off 120,000 workers, but he needs Congress' help.
Some in Congress are also looking at letting the organization recover billions in supposedly overpaid pension payments.

Muslims Against Crusades calls for 9/11 demonstrations:  In light of this Muslims Against Crusades in conjunction with Shariah4America (  have launched what is likely to be one of the highest profile demonstrations of the year. On September 11 2011, as people across the world fall silent and reflect on the unforgettable moments that took place at 8:46am and 9:03am ten years ago, Muslims will stand united outside the US embassy in the heart of London, to declare that they have been defeated – that the US has indeed lost the war.

Seattle EPI reports: “But we’re not going to wait for them,” he added. “We're going to see if we’ve got some straight shooters, see if congressional Republicans can put country before party. We’re going to give them a plan and say, ‘Do you want to create jobs? . . . Show us what you’ve got.’ ”
The remarks came as the president attempts to restore public confidence in his administration’s ability to create jobs, boost the economy and avoid another recession.
The UK Daily Mail reports on America: Teenagers in Florida were handed belts as they returned to school to make sure they comply with the state's new 'pull your pants up law'.
The new law which bans saggy pants on campuses was voted in last spring but has just come into force for the 2011-12 school year.

Florida joins Arkansas in the state-wide school dress code which bans the prison inspired fashion trend.

The Daily Caller writes about declining numbers of union members: To reverse their decline, unions have turned to the political process. Their top priority was the misnamed “Employee Free Choice Act,” which would abolish secret ballots in union organizing elections. That would have let union organizers know precisely who did and who did not support them — enabling them to pressure holdouts to change their minds. Fortunately, Congress declined to go along.
Now the union movement is attempting to accomplish the same goal through regulation. Obama’s appointees to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) are radically rewriting labor regulations to facilitate union organizing.
The NLRB filed charges against Boeing for opening a new plant in South Carolina, a right-to-work state. It also gave the green light for the formation of “micro-unions,” which represent small groups of a business’s workers. The NLRB will soon implement snap elections that will take place as soon as 10 days after organizing drives begin, giving management little time to make its case.
Unions should instead focus on providing workers with the tools they need for a competitive economy. Unions could provide job training, skill certification, career networking opportunities, and financial and retirement advice. They could help workers start up their own businesses and become their own bosses.
Such a union movement, creating value for workers, would not need the government to boost its membership. Unions would grow as workers saw the benefits they provided. That would be something everyone could celebrate come Labor Day.

The New York Post writes: How badly have interest-group politics distorted Obama administration economic policy? Well, the Labor Department is now zealously protecting the workplace rights of illegal aliens even as it shuts down avenues for people to come to America and work legally.
You see, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis has to serve both the liberals’ ideological fixation on illegals and labor unions’ hostility to any competition.
So there she was at a signing ceremony last Monday, declaring, “No matter how you got here or how long you plan to stay, you have certain rights. You have the right to be safe and in a healthy workplace and the right to a legal wage... [This is part of] our shared commitment to protect the labor rights of migrant workers.”
Questioned later about whether she meant to include illegal workers, she was adamant. “I protect all workers here in this country,” she told a Daily Caller reporter. “I have a vested interest in protecting all workers that work here in the US -- period.”
The terrible irony about Solis’ support for workers here illegally is her department’s distaste for legal workers.
Almost Solis’ first act on becoming labor secretary in 2009 was to stop the streamlining of the visa-application process for temporary agricultural workers (visa category H2-A). Farmers who depend on seasonal migrant workers were livid: Solis’ change has (quite predictably) skyrocketed the cost -- in both time and money -- of getting an already-limited number of legal migrant workers.

Human Events reports: Sept. 17, 2011: Day 1 of Anarchists' Attempt to Ignite America

A “flash point” in law enforcement terms is “a point at which someone or something bursts suddenly into action or being.”  One such point sits just ahead on the horizon in America, with various leftists and anarchists preparing to mobilize all their reserves for a burst into action beginning on and around Sept. 17.

The goal appears to be to bring the Arab Spring and European-style mob action stateside.  While various websites related to the events call for “peaceful” protests against government and business, the website names contain words such as “rage” and “revolution.”
Vision to America reports: A new poll of Republican voters in the early primary state of South Carolina suggests the question of Barack Obama’s eligibility is no fringe issue, as 65 percent of those polled question whether the current occupant of the Oval Office was even born in the U.S.
Vision to America writes: The Gospel narratives do not call on the Roman Empire to help the poor except by limiting the State’s power (Luke 3:13–14; Matt. 22:21). Jesus makes it clear that it’s individuals at the local level who are to help the poor:
The local administration of charity is crucial. It ensures that funds go to those who are truly needy, rather than to professional paupers. The charitable aspects of the tithe did not mean simply a handout to everyone who lined up. Charity is to be dispensed by responsible leaders of the covenant community who are in daily contact with the needs of the people. The general principle still holds: those who won’t work don’t eat. Those who attempt to live by a welfare ethic are quickly exposed in a locally-administered program, and will be unable to get away with “mooching.” Even in charity, God’s law teaches responsibility.
Patriot Update opines: Allegations that mosques now are raising funds for Hezbollah come from Sam Bazzi, director of the Islamic Counterterrorism Institute and others.
He reports he’s been in mosques and has seen how the fund raising works.
“They are contributing to Hezbollah indirectly because every Shi’a Muslim has to pay a 20 percent yearly tax on their savings. This goes basically to the clerics as a donation,” he said.
“They (the clerics) send the money to Lebanon to their bank accounts and when they go to Lebanon in the summer on vacation, they take that money and give it to Hezbollah,” he said. “That’s customary; they all do it. In fact they do more than that. The clerics also give donations that are not mandatory in the religious law.”
Orange County Register reveals: A prominent Democratic campaign treasurer who works for federal, state and O.C. lawmakers including U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Rep. Loretta Sanchez and state legislators Lou Correa and Jose Solorio has been arrested by the FBI on suspicion of mail fraud, The Orange County Register has learned.
The New York Daily News writes: Ten years after the Sept. 11 attacks, ex-city worker Natarajan Venkataram says he’s sorry he stole millions of dollars meant for identifying the remains of trade center victims.
He’s just not sorry enough to turn over $400,000 sitting in his bank account in India.
The city medical examiner’s office got millions of dollars from the feds to help identify the remains of nearly 3,000 victims.

Venkataram, then a manager dealing with the medical examiner’s computer system, and his girlfriend, Rosa Abreu, siphoned off millions via shell companies and fake contract bids.
Lexis Nexis reports: The Obama administration has begun a last-ditch diplomatic campaign to avert a confrontation this month over a Palestinian plan to seek recognition as a state at the United Nations, but it may already be too late, according to senior American officials and foreign diplomats.
The administration has privately made it clear to Mr. Abbas that it will veto any request that comes before the U.N. Security Council to make a Palestinian state a new member outright. But the United States alone does not have enough support to block a vote by the General Assembly to elevate the current status of the Palestinians' nonvoting observer ''entity'' to that of an nonvoting observer state.
The Chicago Tribune reports on the effectiveness of Michelle Obama's great idea to bring fresh foods to all inner city neighborhoods, even fighting for our taxpayer dollars to pay for them:  Maywood Market opened with great fanfare, billed as an oasis amid a "food desert" in this west suburb, where fresh fruits and vegetables were hard to find. Despite the hopes of community leaders and health advocates, one item remains in short supply more than a year later — shoppers pushing carts brimming with food. (Snip) The study found that easy access to supermarkets wasn't linked to greater consumption of healthful foods such as produce, low-fat foods or lean meats and whole grains.
On a recent day, the well-stocked aisles were virtually empty, the only sound was the soft hum of the refrigeration system.
With about 75 percent of its population African-American and 20 percent Latino, Maywood is a microcosm for the food desert problem playing out in urban areas across the country. The local market is struggling to find customers even as first lady Michelle Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, among others, have tried to draw attention to the issue.,0,2594013,full.story
