Lessons from Wisconsin: Americans now understand unions - my latest Boyne City Gazette column

The cat is out of the bag.  Americans now know more about public unions than ever before – and they don’t like what they’ve learned.  Prior to the angry union efforts in the Recall Election of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, we generally accepted without question or thought the public union contracts which American taxpayers fund, not understanding that union members are often paid more than private sector workers, that they pay little or nothing toward their health care insurance and pensions that private-sector workers must fund to a high degree, or that they can take full retirement after about 20 years.  Some teachers retire with up to 95% of their salary provided by us for the rest of their lives as well having  health insurance, and then immediately become substitute teachers in the very same district, getting paid once again for their time.  They are, after all, our employees.  They behave as our bosses.

Americans are discovering that public union bosses are often thugs who threaten their opponents.  They take union dues from members without their consent and then use that money to pay themselves very high salaries, to purchase fancy resorts to benefit union bosses, and spend the rest on getting Democrats elected.

Governor Scott Walker did what he promised to do when elected.  Democrat legislators actually fled the state to avoid losing the vote regarding union negotiations and payments.  The unions then filled the capitol city with members from all over America, protesting loudly and camping out at the state Capitol – causing much damage to the building.  Children were brought from their classrooms to join the protest, while teachers indoctrinated students instead of teaching then how to think. An aura of hatred was inspired.
When given free choice to belong to a union or not, 45% of those in the public union AFSCME in Wisconsin dropped their union membership.  No longer can dues be taken from them involuntarily. In fact 38% of them voted against the recall of Scott Walker.

We Americans now have a better knowledge of why our state and local governments have so much debt, with public union pension obligations bankrupting cities and states. In some school districts, for instance, 70% of taxpayer dollars are spent on pension payments.  Teacher salaries have doubled since 1970, but the number of students has only risen by 8.5%.  And yet competency of graduates has diminished.  More money is clearly not the answer.

Governor Walker has in 1 ½ years turned his state budget from a deficit to a surplus and saved Wisconsin taxpayers $1 billion. He did not ask the unions to do anything radical – just to be part of the solution after decades of oversized salaries and benefits.  Governor Walker raised union member donations from 6% on their health care premiums to 12.6%, while non-union members pay about 25%.  Union workers paid nothing or very little toward their pensions until Walker required them to pay only 5%, while non-union members pay up to 100%.  When the value of non-union retirees’ investments drops, it is they who must absorb the loss, while our taxpayer dollars keep union pensions at promised levels through higher taxes. I applaud the teachers of Boyne City, Harbor Springs & Charlevoix for consenting to changes in their contracts in order to stem rising debt.

Since the Wisconsin failure of unions, unions in Michigan have decided not to follow through on their recall efforts against Michigan’s Governor Snyder, for they realize that their money may not be well spent on recall efforts.  Other states may be emboldened by Walker’s victory to take on the oversized power of the unions in their states, seeking Right to Work laws guaranteeing voluntary union membership and contract renegotiations, and saving state budgets.

Forty percent of Americans identify themselves as conservative – 21% as liberal.  Conservative Americans learned from Wisconsin that if they only get out of their chairs to affect an outcome in an election, they can out-organize and out-raise the left and the unions. It is an empowering feeling, one on which to build.   Perhaps this recall effort awakened the sleeping giant.  Conservatives are no longer the silent majority.  May they continue to join the battle for America.

He didn't earn that; Missing Obama records; Obama bundler major Solyndra stakeholder; Washington Post's partnership with Chinese government; Preserving Clinton's Welfare Reform; Chicago teachers union demands 20% pay raise; Food stamps up 100% in 3 years; Obama's proposed tax increase will devastate economy and jobs; Obamacare is a "principle"; Obama's golfing hours exceed those on economic issues; Third cheer for a fighting mad Romney; Romney wins the CafePress election

As the Obama campaign and the media continue to press Mitt Romney to release more of his tax returns, and to suggest — without a shred of evidence — that he is a “felon,” it is worth noting how much critical information Barack Obama has withheld from view — both as a candidate in 2008, and during his term in office. Here is a Breitbart News top ten list of things that Obama has refused to release (a complete list would fill volumes):

10. State senate papers. ...
9. Academic transcripts. ...
8. Book proposal. ...
7. Medical records. ...
6. Small-dollar donors. ...
5. The Khalidi tape. ...
4. The real White House guest list. ...
3. Countless FOIA requests. ...
2. Health reform negotiations. ...
1. Fast and Furious documents.
Obama bundler George Kaiser was a major stakeholder in Solyndra through his Kaiser Family Foundation, and made several trips to the White House in March 2009 to meet with senior administration officials. In July 2009, Kaiser bragged about securing face time with “all the key players in the West Wing of the White House,” as well as his “almost unique advantage” when it came to steering taxpayer funds toward his pet causes.
“There’s never been more money shoved out of the government’s door in world history, and probably never will be again, than in the last few months and in the next 18 months,” Kaiser told members of the Tulsa Rotary Club. “And our selfish parochial goal is to get as much as it for Tulsa and Oklahoma as we possibly can.”  Emails uncovered by Congressional investigators reveal that Solyndra helped secure its $535 million loan guarantee with the help of Steve Spinner, another prominent Obama donor. After bundling more than $500,000 for Obama in 2008, Spinner was named to the White House transition team and later served as “chief strategic operations officer” of the DOE loan program that funded Solyndra.
The Washington Post’s controversial editorial partnership with the Chinese government is drawing renewed scrutiny from a prominent Chinese dissident and from lawmakers on Capitol Hill who recently petitioned the Department of Justice to crack down on the paper’s unregulated promotion of authoritarian propaganda.
The Post has repeatedly come under fire from lawmakers on Capitol Hill and foreign policy experts opposed to its publication of China Watch, a print and online advertising supplement that runs content produced by an organ of the Chinese Communist Party. The articles and featureportray the Chinese government and its human rights record in a glowing, uncritical light.
The paper’s refusal to comprehensively explain its profitable advertising partnership with the People’s Republic of China recently led Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R., Calif.) to petition the DOJ to search for potential violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), which stipulates general guidelines about filing and labeling political propaganda.
While China Watch remains one of the most glaring examples of the Communist Party’s campaign to influence American thought leaders, lawmakers warn that China is engaged in a well-funded and wide-ranging relationship with American businesses, lobbyists, and other entities across the U.S.
China’s goal, they say, is to whitewash its human rights record, foster sympathy for its cause, and infiltrate U.S. markets, potentially endangering the country’s national security.
The [following] video the Obama campaign released in May paints Mitt Romney as the bogeyman behind the closing of GST Steel in Kansas city. One of the men interviewed said, “Mitt Romney was deeply involved in the influence he exercised over these companies.”
Um, what? What does that even mean?
It’s nonsense, much like the premise Mitt Romney was responsible for the decisions. GST failed in 2001. Romney left Bain in 1999.
So who was running Bain then?
One of President Obama’s top bundlers, Jonathan Levine:

It turns out that Jonathan Lavine, current Obama bundler, was actually in charge, at Bain, during that period, when the layoffs occurred. Oops, that isn’t right, is it? Yes, that story is the one that needs to be reported on. Sorry Mr. President, your lies are just getting to be more than many of us are able to handle.
A coalition of Republicans in the House and Senate vowed to preserve the work requirements at the heart of welfare reform after the Obama administration announced last week it would illegally gut the 1996 law. Lawmakers could vote in the coming days on a plan that prohibits the administration from implementing its unilateral action.
As the rest of America loses their jobs, the arrogant Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) that makes its money off the backs of the poor taxpayers is upset that they were only offered a measly 20% pay raise.
Oh the humanities. It’s such an outrage… that they’d get any pay raise at all.
The union’s original position was that they should get a 30% pay raise but the city is about to come back with the 15 to 20% offer. The Chicago Trib reports that the CTU will reject the offer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nancy Pelosi says President Obama should embrace the "Food Stamp President" label as a badge of honor — and he has. Food stamp use has risen 100 percent in three years. Welfare reform has been rolled back through work requirement waivers.
A new study conducted by Ernst and Young proves conclusively that the President’s tax increase would be devastating to the economy and jobs.

The study finds that, if Congress misguidedly adopted President Obama’s plan to raise taxes on job creators by allowing the Bush-era tax policies to expire for incomes over $200,000 ($250,000 for married filers), the economy and jobs would suffer terribly. ...

There are almost 13 million Americans out of work today. President Obama’s tax increase would needlessly add almost three-quarters of a million people to that already much too large number. Even those with jobs wouldn’t escape the pain of President Obama’s tax increase, as they would see their wages suffer.

An eye-opening new report by the Government Accountability Institute reveals that President Barack Obama averages just eight minutes more a week on economic meetings than the average dog owner spends walking their dog.

When it was recently reported that Mr. Obama had played his 100th round of golf, the president said that playing golf was "the only time that for six hours, I'm outside."  Therefore, by his own estimate, the president has spent 600 hours playing golf, as compared to just 412 hours in economic meetings of any kind throughout his presidency.

“You should know that keeping the economy growing and making sure jobs are available is the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning,” Mr. Obama said in 2011 to an audience of UPS workers.  “It's the last thing I think about when I go to bed each night."
Now it is time to give Romney that third cheer. His speech in Irwin, Pennsylvania, was stunning. Speaking without a teleprompter, and glancing down only occasionally at his notes or text, Romney socked it to the president as someone who wanted to "crush economic liberty" and "make Americans feel ashamed of success."
Romney: The idea to say that Steve Jobs didn't build Apple, that Henry Ford didn't build Ford Motor, that Papa John didn't build Papa John Pizza, that Bill Gates didn't build Microsoft? You go down the list. To say something like that is not just foolishness, it's insulting to every entrepreneur, every innovator in America . .
Do we believe America is great because of government, or do we believe in an America that is great because of free people allowed to pursue their dreams and their future?.
In a dramatic shift from then-Sen. Barack Obama’s 2008 election effort to this election cycle, anti-Obama CafePress merchandise sales are outpacing pro-Obama sales.
During first six months of 2008, 86 percent of Obama-related sales at CafePress were pro-Obama — just 14 percent were anti-Obama.
Over the first six months of 2012, 45 percent of Obama merchandise sales have been pro-Obama, 55 percent have been anti-Obama, according to CafePress totals.

Knowing Communist mentor Frank Marshall Davis; Supreme Court gets Obama eligibility case; Obama campaign suing state of Ohio; Obamacare nullification proposed in Oklahoma; Obama's Jobs Council doesn't meet; Special Operations for America launches; Defining Marxism; Gutting education & transportation projects?; Mexican government helps US get more on food stamps; IOC refuses one minute tribute because Muslims might walk out; Seeking foreclosed-upon voters; Union bosses for digging holes and filling them; Sheriff Joe wants Congress to look at O's eligibility

Just how much do Obama and his mentor have in common?

Paul Kengor, author of Mercury Ink’s latest book The Communist, believes you cannot understand a man if you don’t know his mentor. As it turns out, President Obama had a mentor that we know absolutely nothing about – Frank Marshall Davis, a card carrying member of Communist Party USA.
The left and the media have conveniently ignored Davis (and the fact that he is mentioned in Obama’s book, Dreams From My Father, a staggering 22 times), but Kengor has found indisputable facts about the man Obama regards as a mentor that will make your head spin.
Davis was so radical the FBI placed him on the government Security Index, and his FBI file exceeds 600 pages in length. A columnist by trade, Davis edited and wrote for communist newspapers around the U.S., where he frequently used words like ‘change’ and ‘fundamental transformation.’ His writings indicate that he demonized big business, despised oil companies, considered Wall Street to be a group of “greedy millionaires,” and bashed Republican tax cuts for going easy on the rich.
“I’m going to give you a list, one by one, of what Frank Marshall Davis believed, and couple it what we’ve seen the President say or do,” Glenn said on radio this morning. Below are some of the highlights.
1) Frank Marshall Davis advocated for wealth distribution in many of his newspaper articles. What has the President said on this matter:
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I think when you spread the wealth around it’s good for everybody.
2) Frank Marshall Davis favored tax payer funded universal healthcare.
PRESIDENT OBAMA: I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care plan. That’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out – a single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan.
Of the dozens of lawsuits questioning the constitutional eligibility of Barack Hussein Obama to be President of the United States, one has finally reached the docket of the Supreme Court. Should the Court accept the case for review,it will be the first upon which the justices will issue a substantive ruling—one based on the merits.
On February 3rd,Georgia Administrative Court Judge Michael Malihi ruled that Barack Obama is eligible to appear on the Georgia ballot. It was a case during which Malihi received not one scrap of evidence from Obama or his attorney. Subpoenas from plaintiffs were ignored;Obama’s clear burden of proof was NOT imposed. Plaintiff’s motions for contempt were neither acted upon nor forwarded to higher courts;and U.S. Supreme Court precedent took a back seat to the rambling,non-substantive pronouncement of dicta from an Indiana justice.
Yet in his 10 page ruling,Malihi had the monumental gall to claim “This decision is entirely based on the law,as well as the evidence and legal arguments presented at the hearing.”
President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is suing Ohio’s top elections official in a dispute over a state law that restricts early, in-person voting during the three days before Election Day.
The lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court in Columbus follows a series of election law changes cleared by the state’s Republican-controlled Legislature and signed by its Republican governor, John Kasich.
State Representative Mike Ritze from Oklahoma will be proposing a bill that nullifies ObamaCare. No,nullification isn’t when all the white conservatives demand that we bring back black slavery to the states. Nullification happens when the states tell the Feds,“Don’t you forget that we created you,and that we’re sovereign to you. We’re not going to abide by your unconstitutional laws, and if you try to force them on us,you’ll find your agents in jail.”
Ritze doesn’t just call ObamaCare unconstitutional;his bill will criminalize any U.S. government agent who tries to enforce Obama’s brand of healthcare socialism in the state of Oklahoma:

President Barack Obama’s Jobs Council hasn’t met publicly for six months, even as the issue of job creation dominates the 2012 election.
So there's no reason they haven't met publicly?
CARNEY: No, there's no specific reason except that the president's obviously got a lot on his plate.

Today, Ryan Zinke, an ex-Navy SEAL and Montana State Senator, announced the launch of Special Operations for America, a political action committee dedicated to “the election of Mitt Romney and like-minded candidates.”
“Navy SEAL’s, Special Operations Personnel and Veteran’s across America have been outraged since Barack Obama conveniently took credit for killing Osama Bin Laden for political gain,” a statement announcing the launch of SOFA said.
“The President has failed and he is jeopardizing the safety of our troops, their families and our National security for political gain. Obama has exposed the identity of special operations units, leaked classified information, and limited the rules of engagement of forces on the ground,” said Mr. Zinke. “For those who have taken an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, it is a call of duty to take back America from a Commander-in-Chief that is incapable of understanding the sacrifices that have been made for the values that have made America great.”
Those who doubted Obama's immersion in Marxism now have a perfect window into his soul -- namely, in the form of the stunning class warfare remarks he recently made in Roanoke, Virginia.
We must grasp, however, what Marxism is and what it is not.  Marxism is not a political philosophy to help the poor at the expense of the rich, and it is not a design for a utopian future.  Marxism is simply a Heart of Darkness, a Siamese twin of Nazism, a curse on all humanity committed to three themes: (1) hatred, (2) misery, and (3) lying.
Marxism is neither a science nor a system of belief.  It is a rationale for seizing power and terrorizing all those who are not its cadres.  Read more:
In Roanoke, Virginia recently, the President explained to an enthusiastic crowd that his Republican opponents' "basic theory is, if wealthy investors are doing well then everybody does well.  So if we spend trillions of dollars on more tax cuts mostly for the wealthy, that that's somehow going to create jobs, even if we have to pay for it by gutting education and gutting job-training programs and gutting transportation projects, and maybe even seeing middle-class folks have a higher tax burden."  [Lies, lies and more lies.  When he says "gut" he means reducing the AUTOMATIC increase in all programs, which is still a raise in support. He ignores the fact that lower taxation has historically led to higher government revenues.  He also forgets to mention Stimulus Funds, Executive Orders, and the like.]
The Mexican government has been working with the United States Department of Agriculture to increase participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps.
USDA has an agreement with Mexico to promote American food assistance programs, including food stamps, among Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals and migrant communities in America.
“USDA and the government of Mexico have entered into a partnership to help educate eligible Mexican nationals living in the United States about available nutrition assistance,” the USDA explains in a brief paragraph on their “Reaching Low-Income Hispanics With Nutrition Assistance” web page. “Mexico will help disseminate this information through its embassy and network of approximately 50 consular offices.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In 1972, at the Olympics in Munich, PLO terrorists murdered 11 Israeli athletes.  The games, of course, went on, and there has never been any effort to memorialize the victims.
On this, the 40 th anniversary of this barbarism, the families of the victims, led by Munich widow Ankie Spitzer, petitioned the International Olympic Committee to honor the memory of the murdered athletes with a minute of silence, something most Western countries were in favor of:
The BBC , of all places, lends credence to this by mentioning as a genteel aside that the Arab and Muslim members threatened a walk out if the Israeli athletes were memorialized.
Yes, as if you didn't know it before, a substantial number of Muslim are just fine with terrorism, barbarism, and murder if the targets are Jews.  In Britain itself, the first move by the Muslim Council of Britain after it was formed in 2001 was to call for a ban on the U.K.'s Holocaust Memorial Day.  And British schools are now routinely banning teaching anything about the Holocaust for fear of "contradicting versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship."

By day, Lynnette Acosta, a 34-year- old mother of two, is an information-technology manager in Orlando, Florida. By night, she’s a sleuth for President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, scouring for potential voters.
In central Florida, that means knocking on doors in Hispanic neighborhoods with foreclosure rates as high as 30 percent, where once-registered Democrats have been evicted, their homes now owned by the bank. Volunteers walk house-to- house to determine the number of empty homes per precinct, then look for contact information for voters who once lived in them.
As Obama confronts a housing crisis that he’s acknowledged underestimating, his campaign is facing a different kind of foreclosure problem on the streets of Florida and other battleground states, where evictions have left holes in its voter lists. Photographer: Mark Elias/Bloomberg
“It’s almost like playing detective, asking questions,” said Acosta, who is Puerto Rican and one of five campaign volunteers selected to join governors, senators and other officials serving as national co-chairs of the Obama campaign. “We take one door at a time, one person at a time.” [So, are Republicans mining their communities for foreclosed-upon voters?]

Union Bosses Okay Digging Up–Then Filling Back In–Ditches on Taxpayers' Dime

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Mr. Arpaio said he would like Congress ... "someone" ... to look at the material his investigative team had gathered. As he had told WND earlier: “Although I am having a difficult time deciding who to forward this information to given the fact that the obvious choices report directly to the president, I cannot stand by and hold on to information that threatens to weaken national security.”

Blaming Bush chart?; Romney fights back; Driver's licence fraud in Minnesota; Chevy Volt's cost to taxpayers; Our Planned Parenthood dollars; Obama's re-election headquarters; Sheriff Joe's latest proof of ineligibility; Planned Parenthood sues AZ, using taxpayer dollars; Presecuted Christians no longer count in Human Rights reports; Wells Fargo and others were forced to take TARP money

By all accounts, Mitt Romney was sensational today in Pennsylvania. His theme was Barack Obama’s revelatory “you didn’t build that” speech. Over the lunch hour (here in the Midwest), Twitter was burning up with commentary from those who were watching Romney’s speech live. The commentary was unanimously euphoric. Romney spoke without teleprompter or notes, something Obama rarely does without getting into trouble. He was, everyone agreed, passionate and articulate. It seems that Obama’s attack on entrepreneurs and job creators, and his baldly stated conviction that everyone owes everything to government, was the spark that Romney needed.
The state of Minnesota has found nearly 24,000 possible cases of fraud involving driver’s licenses issued in the state, Fox Minneapolis reports. A facial recognition scan of the state’s 11 million photo database found nearly 1.3 million duplicates.
“There was about 23,000 records that we think are a good chance of being fraud,” (Doug Neville, communications director for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety) said.

Media Fail: Chevy Volt Makes NO Money, Costs Taxpayers Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars Per Car

[And this is how it works now: we taxpayers are forced to send our money to a government which, through crony capitalism, used our money to support liberal causes such as government-paid abortions.  Then those who provide the abortions use taxpayer dollars to produce and distribute ads endorsing Barack Obama.  Isn't our "new" presidency" just so terrific?]
The following words are not mine:  After reaching an agreement to send more than $1 million over three years to a Planned Parenthood in Tennessee, the Obama administration has awarded $3.1 million in federal funds to Planned Parenthood affiliates in New Jersey.
The grant announcement was made Tuesday by Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) and Robert Menendez, (D-NJ), two pro-abortion Democrats in the U.S. Senate who are longtime allies of Planned Parenthood. The funding comes through the Department of Health and Human Services to Planned Parenthood and other agencies.
That’s $4.1 million given to Planned Parenthood in just two states. In return, Obama gets $1.4 million in ad support and an endorsement. Amazing how that works, eh?
Behold the results of Obamanomics.
In Portland, Maine, President Obama’s re-election headquarters is on the second floor of a two story brick building. The first floor is home to a furniture and flooring store.
But not for long.
Under Hawaii Revised Statute 338-17.8, a person only has to be an established resident of Hawaii, not necessarily a U.S. citizen, and pay taxes there for one year to be able to register an out-of-state or foreign-born person with an official Hawaii birth certificate.
“If a nation’s security is only as strong as its weakest link, then America may be in serious trouble,” Arpaio said in a statement. “Hawaii may be our weakest link and could have a serious impact on our nation’s immigration policy.”  Hawaii’s deputy attorney general, Jill T. Nagamine, confirm the state has a birth document on file for Obama. But she would not confirm on the record that the White House document matched what was on file with the Hawaii Department of Health.
The Arizona affiliate of Planned Parenthood, the tax-funded abortion behemoth and a top ally of President Obama, filed a federal lawsuit against state officials this week in an effort to stop a new law halting the flow of taxpayer funds to abortion providers. Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, however, expressed confidence that the effort to protect citizens from being coerced into financing abortion would be upheld.

As the largest abortion provider in America and a vicious lobbying group when so-called “choice” is under threat, Planned Parenthood receives hundreds of millions of tax dollars every year from federal, state, and local governments — about half of its budget, in fact. But in recent times, activists across the nation have been relatively successful in their efforts to pass state laws stopping government subsidies for abortionists. In just the last two years, lawmakers in more than a dozen states have succeeded in passing legislation to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
In a major blow to persecuted Christians living in oppressive nations, the U.S. State Department for the first time removed the section on religious persecution from the Country Reports on Human Rights that it released at the end of May 2012. The report, which this year highlighted the success of the “Arab Spring” – the assisted “revolutions” for a democratic society in several Middle Eastern nations such as Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, purged the sections which discuss the rampant abuse, persecution and loss of freedom for the Christians who live in these countries under their new “democratic regimes” in these predominately Muslim countries.
The great Walter Williams writes:  Former Wells Fargo CEO Dick Kovacevich was forced to take Troubled Asset Relief Program funds even though Wells Fargo did not need or want the funds. Kovacevich was threatened that if he did not accept TARP money, regulators would declare his bank capital-deficient even though Wells Fargo had a triple-A rating. At the time, October 2008, Wells Fargo was in the process of acquiring Wachovia, and to be declared capital-deficient would have killed the deal. U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke could rely on acquisitiveness, profit motive and self-interestedness to bully Wells Fargo into accepting TARP money. They also knew that Wells Fargo's competitors would go after Wachovia. If all sound banks had refused TARP money, Paulson and Bernanke's tyrannical threats would have failed.

Barney Bishop, the former Executive Director of the Florida Democratic Party, has written an article detailing why he can not support Barack Obama over Mitt Romney. Bishop had this to say on the president’s policies in an op-ed posted at
In every challenge that faces our nation, Obama sees a solution that can only come with another government-spending program. He fails to harness the ingenuity of entrepreneurs; instead he actually places obstacles, like burdensome regulation, in front of their path to progress.
Bishop, a local businessman, criticizes Obama’s attacks on Romney’s business record and defends Romney’s plan to revitalize the economy:
Specifically, the attacks on the work Mitt Romney did in private equity demonstrates a dangerous lack of understanding how important risk-taking investors are in the U.S. economy. …
Did Mitt Romney and Bain Capital help office-supply retailer Staples create 88,000 jobs? 43,000? 252? Actually, Staples probably destroyed 100,000 jobs while creating millions of new ones.
Since 1986, Staples has opened 2,000 stores, eliminating the jobs of distributors and brokers who charged nasty markups for paper and office supplies. But it enabled hundreds of thousands of small (and not so small) businesses to stock themselves cheaply and conveniently and expand their operations.
It's the same story elsewhere. Apple employs just 47,000 people, and Google under 25,000. Like Staples, they have destroyed many old jobs, like making paper maps and pink "While You Were Out" notepads. But by lowering the cost of doing business they've enabled innumerable entrepreneurs to start new businesses and employ hundreds of thousands, even millions, of workers world-wide—all while capital gets redeployed more effectively.
Local officials in San Bernardino County, Calif., met last week to consider a controversial proposal to use eminent domain powers to seize and refinance underwater mortgages.
The plan, which is being championed by wealthy investors with deep ties to the Democratic Party, has drawn criticism from opponents who see it as an egregious violation of property rights and an exercise in political cronyism.
“This is a group of folks who want to come in and use the government to help acquire properties for them and provide an impressive return on their investment,” said Steven Greenhut, a senior fellow at the Pacific Research Institute, a free-market think tank.
The new authority would apply eminent domain power, which allows governments to forcibly acquire private property for public benefit. However, rather than seizing the physical properties in this case, the authority effectively would be purchasing the mortgages owed by the property owners, with the aim of restructuring them and selling them to investors who could then turn a profit by flipping the homes.
The following is a joint news release issued by the Michigan and Ohio Departments of Natural Resources:
Federal and state wildlife officials working in conjunction with academic researchers today announced six water samples taken from Sandusky and north Maumee bays tested positive for the presence of Asian carp environmental DNA in Michigan and Ohio waters.

The positive samples were among 417 taken from Lake Erie in August 2011, and more than 2,000 samples taken from the Great Lakes Basin since 2010. The Lake Erie batch was recently analyzed and test results were confirmed by eDNA researchers this week. The six positive samples represent less than 1.5 percent of the Lake Erie samples.

Four samples from Sandusky Bay, in Ohio waters, tested positive for bighead carp eDNA, while two samples from north Maumee Bay, in Michigan waters, were positive for silver carp eDNA.

In response to these findings, electro-shocking and netting began Friday in Sandusky Bay with no evidence of Asian carp found. However, additional testing and monitoring are planned by the Ohio and Michigan Departments of Natural Resources in conjunction with partner agencies.

The findings indicate the presence of genetic material left behind by the species, such as scales, excrement or mucous, but not the establishment of Asian carp in Lake Erie. Positive eDNA tests are regarded by the scientific community as an indicator of the species’ recent presence, however, positive results can occur whether the organism was alive or dead.
[CONGRATULATIONS, REPUBLICANS!!!!!]  The Law of the Sea Treaty now has 34 senators opposed and thus will not have the Senate votes for ratification, a key opponent of the treaty announced Monday.
Critics of the treaty had argued that LOST would require the U.S. to subject its sovereignty to an international body, require U.S. businesses to pay royalties for resource exploitation, and subject the U.S. to unwieldy environmental regulations as defined in the treaty.
Remember earlier this year when exactly zero Democrats voted for President Obama’s FY2013 budget? The House voted 414-0 and the Senate voted 99-0 against the President’s budget. This was the second year in a row the Senate unanimously rejected the President’s budget.
And it’s happening again.
Another of the President’s proposals will not be accepted by Senate Democrats. Two weeks ago, President Obama laid out his tax “plan” that would hike taxes on those making more than $250,000 a year – his definition of rich. He also, in his FY2013 budget, proposed hiking the tax rate on dividends, which is the money paid out to investors when a company does well.
Despite reports to the contrary, Senate Democrats have their own plan and will not introduce the plan being touted by the President and left-leaning pundits. Instead, their plan sets the top tax rate for dividends at 23.8%, nearly 20 percentage points lower than what President Obama sought, though a substantial increase from the current rate of 15%. The Senate plan also includes a top estate tax rate of 45% and a one-year alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch to prevent the tax from crushing middle-class families. And yes, they do include the tax hike on those making over $250,000 a year.
Medicare Monthly fee more than doubling by 2014 because of Obamacare.
Maryland’s governor Martin O’Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, was caught posting false data to his state’s website this week in response to a story about the wealthy fleeing Maryland to escape the state’s rising taxes. The Examiner posted the story on July 7, 2012:
“In 2007, Maryland passed some of the largest tax increases in history, and I believe a lot of the exodus of taxpayers out of the state has to do with the tax burden,” said Larry Hogan, founder of Change Maryland and a former member of Republican Gov. Bob Ehrlich’s administration.
The continuous tax increases proposed by Gov. Martin O’Malley won’t help the situation, Hogan said.

The next time you hear Barack Obama praise China as being vastly superior to America - think of this video:

Obama, as a campaign stop in Virginia, said in no particular order:

1) We used to have the best stuff, used to be the best in the world.

2) China has invested so much in their infrastructure and now their ports, trains, schools and airports are all vastly superior to ours.

3) If you are thinking of starting a business, Bejing looks like a pretty good option.

Of course, he leaves out the fact that China is highly polluted (I can personally attest to that), they force children by the millions into child labor, their are scant civil rights and they do not attempt at all to prevent environmental damage.

The District of Columbia’s Republican Committee has named first-term MI U.S. Rep. Justin Amash as one of party’s most influential 35 people under the age of 35.
Amash, 32, of Cascade Township, was honored for serving “as a leading advocate for government restraint” and maintaining a perfect roll call voting record during his freshman year.
Under pressure from Republican senators over its upcoming conference in Hawaii, the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco has canceled next year's scheduled meeting in Monterey, citing budget constraints.
The court, which covers California and eight other Western states, has held annual meetings of judges, lawyers and staff since 1944, with three of the past 10 meetings in Hawaii. Long a target of Republican criticism for its liberal rulings, the court has come under attack from Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa and Jeff Sessions of Alabama for scheduling next month's conference in Maui.

An American Navy ship fired on a boat in the Persian Gulf [yesterday], killing one person and injuring three others aboard the craft, U.S. naval officials told ABC News.
Lt. Greg Raelson, a spokesperson for the Navy's 5th Fleet, which is based in nearby Bahrain, said that a security team aboard the oil supply ship U.S.N.S. Rappahannock fired a .50 caliber machine gun at a "small motor vessel after it disregarded warnings and rapidly approached the U.S. ship" off the coast of Jebel Ali, a city approximately 30 miles from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Department of Homeland Security officials (DHS) rejected an official request for information about illegal immigrants arrested and deported in California, citing the privacy rights of the deportees, even though that information would be publicly available if the criminals were American citizens.

In a victory for Republicans, the federal government has agreed to let Florida use a law enforcement database to challenge people's right to vote if they are suspected of not being U.S. citizens.
The agreement, made in a letter to Florida Gov. Rick Scott's administration that was obtained by The Associated Press, grants the state access to a list of resident noncitizens maintained by the Homeland Security Department. The Obama administration had denied Florida's request for months but relented after a judge ruled in the state's favor in a related voter-purge matter.
President Obama insulted small business owners during a campaign stop in Roanoke, Va. on Saturday.
“If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that,” Obama told the crowd. “Somebody else made that happen.”
President Obama said successful Americans did not become successful on their own — they had help.
“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own,” he said. “You didn’t get there on your own.”
“The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together,” he said. “There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own.  I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service.  That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.”
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help,” he said. “There was a great teacher somewhere in your life.  Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive.  Somebody invested in roads and bridges.  If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that.  Somebody else made that happen.  The Internet didn’t get invented on its own.  Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.” [President Obama, without people who are willing to risk their own money to make things happen, to build or sell a product, to improve present technology, there would be no new businesses which employ people!]
You have the innate desire for information and you drove the Internet by putting your personal interest and money toward it. You funded government and academic organizations that did the foot work. You signed up on a bulletin board system or joined AOL when it first started. You put your money where your mind is and that, my friend, resulted in the creation of the Internet we know and love today.

Michigan is breeding poverty  [One man's solution]

since the national attention is on birth control, here's my idea: If we want to fight poverty, reduce violent crime and bring down our embarrassing drop-out rate, we should swap contraceptives for fluoride in Michigan's drinking water.
We've got a baby problem in Michigan. Too many babies are born to immature parents who don't have the skills to raise them, too many are delivered by poor women who can't afford them, and too many are fathered by sorry layabouts who spread their seed like dandelions and then wander away from the consequences.
Michigan's social problems and the huge costs attached to them won't recede until we embrace reproductive responsibility.
Last year, 43 percent of the babies born in Michigan were to single mothers. And even though Medicaid pays for birth control, half of the babies born here were to mothers on welfare. Eighteen percent were born to teenagers who already had at least one child. And nearly 1-in-5 new babies had mothers with no high school diploma.
Ispoke with an educator who is dealing with a single mother, mid-30s, with 12 children and a 13th on the way. The kids have an assortment of fathers with one thing in common — none married their mother. This woman's womb is a poverty factory.
It wouldn't matter if Michigan's economy were bursting with jobs, the woman and her children would still be poor.
Who's supporting these kids? If you're a taxpayer, you are. The roughly 45,000 children a year born onto the welfare rolls is a major reason Medicaid will consume 25 percent of next year's budget.
In the 1990s, Michigan considered penalizing women who had more babies while on welfare, but pro-life groups killed the idea out of fear it would lead to more abortions.
The Department of Homeland Security on Friday warned that a popular system used by organizations around the world to manage millions of machines and devices over the Internet is vulnerable to attack from hackers.
The software system known as the Niagara Framework enables corporate, military, health-care and other users to remotely control or monitor medical devices, elevators, video cameras, security systems and a wide array of other sensitive operations.  [And the Census Bureau says my answers to the American Communities Survey will remain confidential.  Sure they will.]
Leg tingles? Forget it.
That was 2008.
For 2012 the tingle is entirely different.
“Because that's how you play the game in Washington,” admitted then-candidate Obama according to a transcript of his 2008 “closing argument” speech released by the Chicago Sun Times. “If you can't beat your opponent's ideas, you distort those ideas and maybe make some up."
Indeed you do, Mr. Obama.
Testimony has concluded in the trial of Texas 'Voter I.D.' law, after attorneys for the state demolished the main arguments raised against the law by the Obama Administration, and got the key witness for the Justice Department to admit he got his information from Wikipedia, 1200 WOAI news reports.

The Justice Department presented what it said was evidence that as many as 1.5 million Texans don't have the government issued photo i.d. required to vote, but Attorney General Greg Abbott says of the people on that roll, 50,000 are dead, 330,000 are over the age of 65 and can vote by mail, where a photo i.d. is not required, and more than 800,000 are on the list improperly.
In fact, University of Texas students conducted a telephone survey of random people on the DOJ's list of people who allegedly don't have the documents required to vote, and found that more than 90% of them, including 93% of African Americans and 92% of Hispanics on the list, actually have a photo i.d.
Polish officials unveiled a statue of former President Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II on Saturday, honoring two men widely credited in this Eastern European country with helping to topple communism 23 years ago.-
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a defiant speech in the face of Iran’s conflict with the West over its nuclear program, vowed that “Iran will stand by all those who will confront America and Israel.”
“The oppressors — and at the helm of it America and the Zionists — have been taken by surprise by the [Arab Spring] movement and are trying with all their power to control it,” Khamenei said. “However, if the Islamic nations resist the conspiracies, then it is guaranteed that they will be victorious over the world oppressors.”
It was Barack Obama who gave TARP money to General Motors (which now builds 70 percent of its cars in China) and it was Barack Obama who appointed Jeffrey Immelt, General Electric CEO, his Chairman of the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Mr. Obama evidently didn’t realize Immelt was so stupid he needed to explain he meant American, not Chinese, jobs. Immelt calls China “GE’s second home.”
The Obama for America Campaign is holdinga holding a big event in a Philadelphia-area synagogue Monday. DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D., Fla.) is scheduled to appear at the Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park.
Team O even sent out invitations.
Too bad they can’t spell Israel.

Besides misspelling Israel, the campaign event at Keneseth Israel directly conflicts with an IRS rule stating that nonprofit organizations, such as religious institutions, prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign.
But, who cares?
After all, he’s Barack Obama.
US SECRETARY of State Hillary Clinton has been taunted by chants of "Monica, Monica" by tomato-throwing demonstrators as she visited the Egyptian port city of Alexandria.
The chants, referring to the Monica Lewinsky scandal when her husband, Bill Clinton, was president, were heard outside the US consulate as she visited for its reopening.
An embarrassed Egyptian security official said they were chanting "Monica, Monica" and "Irhal, Clinton" (Get out, Clinton.)
Tomatoes, shoes and a water bottle were thrown at part of Mrs Clinton's motorcade as it pulled up, protected by riot police, although a US official said Mrs Clinton's own vehicle was not hit.
The protest appears to have been the result of suspicions that Washington had helped the Muslim Brotherhood win elections in Egypt in the wake of last year's ouster of president Hosni Mubarak after 18 days of massive street protests.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The film, 2016: Obama’s America, based on conservative author Dinesh D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage, had a free, promotional screening at Edwards Houston Marq’E Stadium 23 & Imax on Thursday. Management had planned to show it in one of its medium-sized auditoriums, but bumped it to one the multiplex’s largest rooms and turned away 200 people.
Sources say some moviegoers sat in the aisles Thursday and waited as much as 90 minutes to meet D’Souza and Gerald Molen, one of the Oscar-winning producers of Schindler’s List, who was a co-producer of 2016 along with Doug Sain. For some of its regular showings over the weekend, the theater offered 2016 on multiple screens, including three sold-out auditoriums for the 7 p.m. Friday showing.
