Democrat Civility in Congress; Historic Cuts; What Boehner Achieved; The Wisconsin Election for Judge Prosser; Repeal of Dodd-Frank Law Considered

[Following are examples of the new kindness by Democrats, requested by a tearful Nancy Pelosi as well as our President, following the shootings in Tucson.  They so want us to stick to the discussion of issues and not say mean things about each other, right?  After all, name calling and angry words can lead to violence!  It must make our President proud.  Notice that he is no leader, for he is not asking for civility.]
Daily Caller reports: A group of Washington, D.C. residents say they plan to leave their trash at House Speaker John Boehner’s house in the event of a government shutdown, an action their Facebook page says is retribution for the loss of city services a shutdown would cause.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeda Productions opines: Conservative lawmakers say the money indirectly subsidizes abortions, despite the fact that the federal Hyde Amendment expressly prohibits such use of taxpayer funds.
Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., repeated a Republican argument today that abortions are “well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.” “This has no impact on the budget. It has no impact on the deficit or the debt,” said Maryland Sen. Barbara Mikulski. “Where we will not go is eliminating the health care for women. Make no mistake, this entire debate has involved throwing women and children under the bus.” http://jedaproductions.com/planned-parenthood-at-center-of-budget-shutdown-threat-abc-news.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Politico reports: D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton tells Fox 5 in Washington: "We are absolutely outraged. Norton said the shutdown is "the functional equivalent of bombing innocent civilians".

Speaking in Tucson following the tragic shooting there, this is some of what our fearless leader said:  "The loss of these wonderful people should make every one of us strive to be better in our private lives -- to be better friends and neighbors, co-workers and parents. And if, as has been discussed in recent days, their deaths help usher in more civility in our public discourse, let's remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy, but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation.

We can question each other's ideas without questioning each other's love of country, and that our task, working together, is to constantly widen the circle of our concern so that we bequeath the American dream to future generations." http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/obama-speech-transcript-president-addresses-shooting-tragedy-tucson/story?id=12597444&page=4

National Review writes: Indeed, Harry’s Reid dramatic shift on spending cuts — from denouncing the initial GOP offer ($32 billion) as “draconian” and “unworkable,” to celebrating a $38.5 billion spending cut as “historic” — is remarkable in and of itself. Also telling was the way that Democrats artificially inflated the amount of cuts being offered. (At least they care enough about the political sensibilities of American voters to lie to them about it).  http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/264308/boehner-wins-big-andrew-stiles

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

National Review opines: The House got an agreement out of Harry Reid and the White House to prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions in the District of Columbia, and to allow a vote in the Senate over Planned Parenthood funding (and Obamacare).  The Speaker and the Republican caucus who stood with him, his team, and his leadership, deserve gratitude tonight. I’m certainly grateful. I think they were smart negotiators. I think the Dems probably made a long-term mistake making Planned Parenthood the story today. I think there will be some revealing hearings to come.  http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/264300/culture-life-win-thanks-house-kathryn-jean-lopez

Here are some of the particulars of what John Boehner extracted from the Democrats as part of the new law, from Boehner's website:

  • GUARANTEES SENATE VOTE ON REPEAL OF OBAMACARE.  The agreement reached with Senate Democrats guarantees a Senate debate and vote on legislation that would repeal President Obama’s government takeover of health care in its entirety.  The House passed such legislation in January as part of the Pledge to America.
  • NEW TOOLS IN THE FIGHT TO REPEAL OBAMACARE.  The agreement will generate new tools for the fight to repeal Obamacare by requiring numerous studies that will force the Obama Administration to reveal the true impact of the law’s mandates, including a study of how individuals and families will see increased premiums as a result of certain Obamacare mandates; a full audit of all the waivers that the Obama Administration has given to firms and organizations – including unions - who can't meet the new annual coverage limits; a full audit of what's happening with the comparative effectiveness research funding that was in Obamacare and the president’s failed “stimulus” spending bill; and a report on all of the contractors who have been hired to implement the law and the costs to taxpayers of such contracts.
    • BANS TAXPAYER FUNDING OF ABORTION IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.  The agreement includes a complete ban on local and federal funding of abortion in the District of Columbia, applying the pro-life principles of the Hyde Amendment (“D.C. Hyde”).
    • MANDATORY AUDITS OF THE NEW JOB-CRUSHING BUREAUCRACY SET UP UNDER DODD-FRANK.  The agreement subjects the so-called Consumer Financial Protection Bureau created by the job-destroying Dodd-Frank law to yearly audits by both the private sector and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to monitor its impact on the economy, including its impact on jobs, by examining whether sound cost-benefit analyses are being used with rulemakings.

    • Big Government reports: [Following the recently found 14,000 votes in the Wisconsin election for Supreme Court Judge, the left has written caustically of a stolen election.]

Reflected in these statements is frustration and denial at the thought that despite months of anger and marching in the streets, despite the efforts of millions of dollars, and despite the fairly effective attempt to make a non-partisan judicial race a referendum on Governor Scott Walker, a narrow majority of Wisconsinites still turned out and voted in favor of Justice Prosser.

But how come no one is worried about the potential disenfranchisement of over 14,000 voters in the city of Brookfield? Is it because the majority of them appear to have voted for Justice David Prosser? Is it because it is a heavily Republican area? Are the over 3,000 voters of Brookfield who voted for JoAnne Kloppenburg part of this conspiracy to steal as well?
What happened in Waukesha was an error. A major error. But the canvassing process worked. It detected the error, and there was enough time to correct it. A representative from the Waukesha Democratic Party, Ramona Kitzinger, was part of the process and confirmed that “we went over everything and made sure all the numbers jibed up and they did.  http://biggovernment.com/mtrackers/2011/04/08/conspiracy-characterizes-reaction-to-uncounted-waukesha-votes/

The Hill reports: Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) announced Friday he will introduce legislation to repeal the Dodd-Frank financial reform law and said the bill has 18 co-sponsors, including the entire Senate Republican leadership.
"We must repeal the Democrats’ takeover of the financial markets that favors Wall Street corporations, over-regulates small businesses with massive new bureaucracy and hurts consumers,” said DeMint in a statement. “This financial takeover will strangle our economy and move jobs overseas unless it is repealed."
The bill has attracted a variety of Republican co-sponsors, ranging from the most senior members of the caucus to fiscally conservative freshmen.  http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/banking-financial-institutions/153287-senate-gop-pushing-repeal-of-wall-street-reform?sms_ss=facebook&at_xt=4d9efed012e24e7f%2C0

Looking Good for Judge Prosser in Wisconsin Vote; Media is Terrified; OK and AZ Seek Proof of U.S. Citizenship For Those on Ballot; Articles of Impeachment Drawn Up; Wisconsin Union Bosses Protect Themselves, Not Their Members; Obama Calls Military Funding Bill During Shut-down a Distraction; Obama Tells Constituent Who Can't Afford Gas to Buy a New Car; Legislation to Cease Libyan Effort and Defund It;

  • Redstate reports: Fortunately, things seem to be looking up for Republican Wisconsin Judge Prosser, [who would be the deciding vote on the constitutionality of the Wisconsin "union-cutting" bill].  The re-canvassing has brought more votes in for him. Many more.
Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, some more Prosser votes started to trickle in from Winnebago county, netting him 244 more votes, which translates into a 40 vote lead statewide.
The good news by no means ends there, though. The bombshell development that could seal this for Prosser came in the form of 7000+ votes for him that weren’t counted in Waukesha County (a Prosser stronghold) thanks to a computer error.
    National Review has more info:
After Tuesday night’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election, a computer error in heavily Republican Waukesha County failed to send election results for the entire City of Brookfield to the Associated Press. The error, revealed today, would give incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser a net 7,381 votes against his challenger, attorney Joanne Kloppenburg.
    [...]
Prior to the election, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus was heavily criticized for her decision to keep the county results on an antiquated personal computer, rather than upgrade to a new data system being utilized statewide. Nickolaus cited security concerns for keeping the data herself — yet when she reported the data, it did not include the City of Brookfield, whose residents cast nearly 14,000 votes.  Also, to help defeat allegations of election fraud, a Democratic poll watcher has called the previously uncounted votes legit, per the Daily Callerhttp://www.redstate.com/ironchapman/2011/04/07/recount-gives-prosser-a-lead-in-wisconsinfor-now/

Floyd Report reveals: Someone has finally been moved to action by Barack Obama’s increasingly lawless administration. Bruce Fein, a former high-ranking official in the Reagan Justice Department who wrote the first article of impeachment against Bill Clinton, has drawn up formal articles of impeachment against the president. Fein explained the final straw was Obama’s unwise, unauthorized, and unconstitutional military action against Libya. “Barack Hussein Obama has mocked the rule of law, endangered the very existence of the Republic and the liberties of the people, and perpetrated an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor,” he said.  http://floydreports.com/lawyer-drafts-articles-of-impeachment-over-libya/?utm_source=Expose+Obama&utm_campaign=2eb56ddf5e-EO_04_07_20114_7_2011&utm_medium=email

  • Exose Obama opines: If nothing else, the entire Wisconsin episode in union strong arm tactics has forever ripped the cover off the façade of the unions’ purported paternalism toward their members.  Rank and file union members are learning their union thug bosses care about themselves and nothing else.
  • There were just a few provisos: don’t take away our dues check off; don’t allow union opts outs and don’t enforce the Beck decision, which would give individual union members the right to withhold some of their dues for political purposes. In other words, “Keep our money coming and you can do whatever you want with these suckers; just tell us where to sign.”
The “evil” county government took them at their word and hacked away.
In a 33-month contract, the union bosses agreed to:
  • accept zero pay raises;
  • end all tenured job protection;
  • end most pay classifications;
  • yield control over healthcare packages; and
  • yield the control individual workers have over the amount of their pension contributions.
So, for almost three years those union thugs will still have the county collecting their extortion money while they are responsible for delivering exactly nothing – something at which they excel.

The only difference between unions’ methods and those of the mafia is that the mob thinks it owns politicians, while the unions actually do.  http://www.exposeobama.com/2011/04/07/video-rush-obama-sings-old-people-have-no-reason-to-live/?utm_source=Expose+Obama&utm_campaign=2eb56ddf5e-EO_04_07_20114_7_2011&utm_medium=email

Redstate writes on Obama: In the past, American soldiers were classified as essential personnel. Therefore, should the government shut down our soldiers would keep getting paid.
But Barack Obama has decided to hold our American soldiers hostage to a government shutdown. The Commander-in-Chief has, via the Secretary of the Department of Defense, proposed classifying our men and women in harm’s way as “non-essential.” That means, should the government shut down, they will not be paid.
Remember, the only reason we are on the verge of a government shutdown is because for the first time since the budget act was passed in the mid-seventies, a Congress — controlled by Democrats last year — failed to pass a budget. That’s right. We are where we are because the Democrats last year failed to pass a budget and now are refusing to go along with cuts as the GOP sorts out the mess the Democrats made.  [I continue to wonder why Republicans don't simply state what a small percentage of the budget is being targeted for cuts. It's difficult to compute 12 zeros (in one trillion), compared to billions.  One thousand billions equal one trillion.  A cut of $61 billion would only be 1.6% of the entire U.S. budget.  They should be comparing it, for instance, to a $16cut in a $1000 budget.   http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/04/08/barack-obama-takes-our-soldiers-hostage-to-a-shutdown/

Redstate reports: Obama says little short-term help for gas prices
“Obama needled one questioner who asked about gas prices, now averaging close to $3.70 a gallon nationwide, and suggested that the gentleman consider getting rid of his gas-guzzling vehicle.”
“”If you’re complaining about the price of gas and you’re only getting 8 miles a gallon, you know,” Obama said laughingly. “You might want to think about a trade-in.”  http://www.redstate.com/snarkandboobs/2011/04/07/cant-afford-gas-for-your-car-trade-it-in-rubes-says-obama/

The New American reports on Michigan's Justin Amash: When launching his military intervention into the Libyan civil war, President Barack Obama undoubtedly expected some resistance from Republicans in Congress. On the other hand, he probably did not count on members of his own party joining the GOP in opposing the operation, but that is precisely what is happening. On March 29, Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) introduced legislation requiring the President to “cease the use of force in, or directed at, the country of Libya” and denying him the use of federal funds to finance the war.
s of this writing, Amash’s bill has 11 cosponsors. Seven are Republicans: Jason Chaffetz (Utah), John Duncan (Tenn.), Christopher Gibson (N.Y.), Timothy Johnson (Ill.), Walter Jones (N.C.), Tom McClintock (Calif.), and Ron Paul (Texas). National Review writes about Samatha Power[one more radical Obama appointee]: [Is she] an influential presidential adviser whom 1960s revolutionary Tom Hayden treats as a fellow radical? A White House official who wrote a book aiming to turn an anti-American, anti-Israeli, Marxist-inspired, world-government-loving United Nations bureaucrat into a popular hero? Samantha Power, senior director of multilateral affairs for the National Security Council and perhaps the principal architect of our current intervention in Libya, is all of these things. More deeply, her goal is to use our shared horror at the worst that human beings can do in order to institute an ever-broadening regime of redistributive transnational governance. http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/263872/samantha-power-s-power-stanley-kurtz

    • Townhall opines:  Obama is reportedly looking to tap another prominent female diplomat. Her name is Samantha Power, and she bills herself as a human rights activist. A Yale University graduate, Power became a leftist foreign policy journalist for various major news organizations. She then came back to the United States, where she attended Harvard Law School. Her book, "A Problem from Hell: America and the Age of Genocide," implicated the United States in virtually every major genocide of the last century. As a fellow radical Harvard Law School grad, she quickly penetrated Barack Obama's inner circle and became his senior foreign policy adviser during the 2008 campaign. Now she is a member of the National Security Council, and according to media reports, successor to Hillary's throne. AT&T: $140,022,949
General Electric: $36,607,818. GE has made headlines recently for not paying any U.S. taxes last year.

    Verizon:$91,702,538
    General Motors: $19,002,669

The Washington Post Company raked in $573,217 in taxpayer subsidies and CBS Corporation secured $722,388 worth of Americans’ money. [Due to the large number of accepted applications, and considering the current rate of reimbursements, the $5 billion originally allotted to the program is expected to run out before the end of 2012.  Once again, companies chosen by this administration get waivers while the rest of them are bum out of luck]  . http://www.exposeobama.com/2011/04/06/washington-post-and-cbs-receiving-money-from-obamacare-slush-fund/?utm_source=Expose+Obama&utm_campaign=9220ad88c0-EO_04_06_2011_14_6_2011&utm_medium=email

Fox News reports: Just ask George Soros. The left-wing billionaire is helping fund two major conferences that start on the same day, in two different locations just a three hours apart by car.
The first gathering in Bretton Woods, N.H., is an economic conference Soros once described as “a grand bargain that rearranges the entire financial order.” In October 2009, Soros committed $50 million to the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET). A week later, the glib lefty investor wrote a column calling for a new Bretton Woods event, to recreate the one that helped design the post-WWII economy. Only he wants this one to knock America down a peg or three.
Just down the road in Boston, a Soros-funded media conference is trying to manipulate that emerging order as well. Close to 350 left-wingers from a variety of organizations are gathering there for the National Conference for Media Reform.
That “change the world” conference includes two commissioners from the FCC, House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Bernie Sanders, four Democratic representatives, the head of Columbia University, and assorted left-wing journalist types, from Salon’s Glenn Greenwald to disgraced former MSNBC host David Shuster, who now works for a Soros-funded investigative operation.

    Congress to Vote on Anti-Obesity Fund; Islamic Law for US Troops; No Work, No Pay; Facebook A Dream Come True for the CIA; Congress Eliminates Some of Obamacare; Ryan's Budget; We Are One Rallies Fail;

Daily Caller reports: -As Congress continues to battle over budget cuts, one House subcommittee took the first step toward defunding a slush fund of taxpayer money used for anti-obesity campaigns throughout the country. In a little-noticed hearing last Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Health Subcommittee voted out legislation that would repeal the Prevention and Public Health Fund that was created in the health care reform bill. The fund is a permanently authorized and appropriated subsidy for the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative (originally funded through the Recovery Act) that gives grants.
But even more staggering is the rate at which the already-appropriated funds increase from year to year, per the language of the health care bill. The legislation authorizes $500 million for fiscal year (FY) 2010, then $1 billion by FY 2012, $1.5 billion in 2013, and finally, $2 billion from 2015 and “each fiscal year thereafter”.
That eventual $2 billion in taxpayer money would be controlled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a federal agency under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

    4. Your level of sensitivity must be even greater when conducting canine searches. [Dogs are also "najis."] Having an animal anywhere near a Qur”an or other religious artifact is considered highly disrespectful.

I received an email from a Michigan Democrat Party saying: "Congress continues to pass stop-gap measures to the keep the federal government functioning until April 8th. If a budget cannot be agreed to by then, the government will shut down. Vital government services will cease and tens of thousands of middle class families will stop receiving their paychecks.
But a loophole in federal law says that Members of Congress will continue to get paid, even if the government shuts down because they failed to pass a budget.
This is not right. If Congress fails to do its job, Members should not get paid."   [Dare we assume then that Democrats support a no-pay policy for the Democrats who fled Wisconsin in order to keep from doing their jobs there?  Just wondering...]

At some point in between, as Harvard economist Kenneth Rogoff explains in the Financial Times, interest rates spike and the government is forced to make draconian cuts.
Those Social Security checks? They can be cut anytime, as the Supreme Court held in Flemming v. Nestor in 1960. Congress can do that just as quickly as it voted $700 billion to bail out the banks in the fall of 2008.

WTAQ reveals: The nation’s largest government labor union told Wisconsin Senate Democrats what to say on the day they left Madison to delay a vote on the collective bargaining limits.

The Milwaukee newspaper obtained e-mails from the office of Senate Democratic Leader Mark Miller. And Blaine Rummel of AFSCME – the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees – gave talking points to Miller’s office. Rummel urged the senators to tell the media quote, “We’re on the job. The fact is, Wisconsin legislators are sworn to protect people’s rights, not take them away – and we are fulfilling our oath.” In this case, the “rights” referred to the collective bargaining privileges Governor Scott Walker tried to take away from most public unions but couldn’t, because the law is now being held up in court. http://wtaq.com/news/articles/2011/apr/05/afsme-gave-talking-points-dem-leader/

Fox News reports: A $5 billion program aimed at providing temporary help to employers to maintain medical coverage for early retirees is being quickly depleted, as Republican lawmakers express outrage over the number of large, profitable corporations that have pocketed the taxpayer money.
The Early Retiree Reinsurance Program was created by the federal health care law passed by Democrats and signed by President Obama last year. The purpose was to encourage employers not to drop health coverage of early retirees before some of the key provisions of the health care law take effect in 2014.
But much of the money has gone to some big-name companies and organizations, including more than $200 million for the United Auto Workers, $140 million for AT&T and $91.7 million for Verizon.
And General Electric, which made news this week for not owing federal taxes on $14.2 billion in profit, got $36.6 million through the retiree program.  http://www.foxnews.mobi/quickPage.html?page=22995&external=829478.proteus.fma&pageNum=-1

Vision to America writes: As of Wednesday night, a vote may finally be in sight for an amendment that would revoke the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act. After days of back and forth over scheduling, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid signaled late Wednesday that a vote is tentatively set for Thursday afternoon. But according to Inhofe, the reason the EPA amendment hasn’t come up for a vote yet is because Democrats are concerned about what it could do to their re-election chances in 2012.  http://visiontoamerica.org/story/sen-inhofe-obama-cant-veto-legislation-blocking-epa-regulations.html

The New American writes about Janet Napolitano: the Homeland Security Secretary, confessed last week that the Obama administration will not deport illegal-alien students who would have fallen under the protection of the failed DREAM Act, the amnesty for illegal aliens that traveled under the name of immigration reform. The practical result of the Obama administration’s policy, as she explained it, is that the DREAM Act is now the law even though Congress did not pass it.  http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/politics/6959-napolitano-unpassed-dream-act-now-

Redstate opines: Let me first say the number you are going to hear batted about today is that Paul Ryan’s budget cuts $6.2 trillion. Please keep in mind that following that number is this language: “from the president’s budget over the next 10 years.” That is different from actually cutting $6.2 trillion. These are cuts placed in juxtaposition to the President’s proposed cuts. We will find out later today what the real cuts are.
Paul Ryan is a very decent guy, but he is just a man. He supported No Child Left Behind, the medicare prescription drug benefit, TARP, the auto bailout, the arguably unconstitutional AIG bonus tax, and capping CEO pay among other things. He is not infallible. Please, conservatives, try not to sound too enraptured.  http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/04/05/paul-ryan-is-not-jesus-but-his-path-to-prosperity-gospel-is-really-good/

Redstate writes about Muslim who kill because one American burned a Koran: Ghosh says, “the Koran, if you are a believer, if you`re a Muslim, the Koran is directly the word of God, not written by man. It is transcribed, is directly the word of God. That makes it sacred in a way that it`s hard to understand if you`re not Muslim.”
In other words, Ghosh thinks the savage murder of innocent people when the Koran is burned is a normal part of being a muslim. Now, assuming we take as the objective fact that most Christians believe exactly as Muslims believe regardless of Ghosh’s ignorance — that the Bible is the inerrant , God breathed very Word of God — we are left with a compelling glimpse into the world.
Time Magazine’s “World Editor” believes that it is a perfectly expected act for the “Religion of Peace” to lob off the heads of the infidel in revenge for a Koran burning and for Christians to sit idly by when their Bible is burned.  http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/04/04/time-magazine-bobby-ghosh-is-ignorant-about-christianity/

Yahoo news reports: Yielding to political opposition, the Obama administration gave up Monday on trying avowed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four alleged henchmen in civilian federal court in New York and will prosecute them instead before military commissions. [I could believe that Obama and his chosen administration are so uninformed about the real life of a President, so uneducated in so many things, that they are just now actually learning why President George Bush made his decisions.  It may have nothing to do with "pressure" and every thing to do with finally wising up to the dangers presented.  After all, if pressure bothered them, we would not now have the unconstitutional and voided Obamacare law and all the other outrageous overreach of this administration.] http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110405/ap_on_re_us/us_terrorism_trial

The NY Post opines: The AG, however, felt compelled to wag his middle finger at Congress, the CIA and the American people: "Members of Congress simply do not have access to the evidence" to determine where the trials should be held.
Asked by reporters whether Congress reflected the will and wisdom of its 300 million constituents, Holder smoldered: "Do I know better than them? Yes."

From the Whitehouse.gov website: On October 14, 2010, the Climate Change Adaptation Task Force, co-chaired by the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), released its interagency report outlining recommendations to President Obama for how Federal Agency policies and programs can better prepare the United States to respond to the impacts of climate change.  The report recommends that the Federal Government implement actions to expand and strengthen the Nation’s capacity to better understand, prepare for, and respond to climate change.  These recommended actions include:
    • Make adaptation a standard part of Agency planning to ensure that resources are invested wisely and services and operations remain effective in a changing climate.
    • Ensure scientific information about the impacts of climate change is easily accessible so public and private sector decision-makers can build adaptive capacity into their plans and activities.
    • Align Federal efforts to respond to climate impacts that cut across jurisdictions and missions, such as those that threaten water resources, public health, oceans and coasts, and communities.
    • Develop a U.S. strategy to support international adaptation that leverages resources across the Federal Government to help developing countries reduce their vulnerability to climate change through programs that are consistent with the core principles and objectives of the President’s new Global Development Policy.  [Get ready for more and more wealth distribution, for we Americans are just too greedy.]
    • Build strong partnerships to support local, state, and tribal decision makers in improving management of places and infrastructure most likely to be affected by climate change.  [The ugly hand of the government in our pockets will come to you.]  http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/ceq/initiatives/adaptation

    • The AP reports: Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the U.S. is "deeply concerned" about the situation in the Ivory Coast and reports of human rights abuses and a massacre of more than 1,000 people.
In a statement Sunday, Clinton called on Laurent Gbagbo (luh-RAHN' BAHG'-boh), the entrenched incumbent who lost a November vote, to step down immediately. She also says forces loyal to the internationally recognized President Alassane Ouattara (AL'-ah-sahn wah-TAHR'-ah) must respect the rules of war and stop attacks on civilians. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_US_IVORY_COAST?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2011-04-03-07-00-55

The Washington Examiner Reports: The day could be coming when you won't be entirely without recourse [over questionable environmental lawsuits], thanks to Sen. David Vitter, R-La., and Rep. Rob Bishop, R-Utah. They have introduced the Domestic Jobs, Domestic Energy, and Deficit Reduction Act of 2011 (3-D). The sponsors claim their bill "would create more than 2 million jobs, $10 trillion in economic activity, and $2 trillion in federal tax receipts (conservative 30-year estimates)." Among 3-D's major features are provisions to prod the federal bureaucracy to speed up Outer Continental Shelf lease sales for oil and natural gas exploration and development off the U.S. coasts, as well as federal permitting for energy purposes on public lands. The measure also would fix time limits on environmental and judicial reviews of leases and permits.

AP - Charlie Sheen was heckled, booed and eventually abandoned by the crowd at his inaugural stage show, with many of the audience members chanting "refund" and heading for the exits even before the show abruptly ended.  The former "Two and a Half Men" star learned firsthand at Detroit's 5,100-seat Fox Theatre that show business still requires a show.  http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110403/ap_en_ot/us_sheen_on_tour

Redstate reports: Senator Schumer has introduced S.679 and, along with 15 co-sponsors from both sides of the aisle, would like to reduce the number of Presidential appointments that require consent of the Senate while also establishing a “Working Group on Streamlining Paperwork for Executive Nominations” within the executive branch. Addington properly dismisses this idea as detrimental to the Constitutional safeguard against the accumulation of power in one branch   According to Heritage.org: The bill reduces the number of presidential appointments that require the consent of the Senate. http://www.heritage.org/Research/Reports/2011/04/Speed-Up-Nominations-and-Confirmations-but-Do-Not-Enact-S-679

Labor Union Report writes, quoting the Wall St. Journal: Union chiefs like Mr. Parrett know what that means for their political clout. After taking office in 2005, Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels used an executive order to end collective bargaining for public workers—a power granted by former Governor Evan Bayh. The number of state public employees has since fallen to 28,700 from 35,000.  [Have you wondered why the Wisconsin unions are so stridently advocating for union rights?] But more important, the vast majority of those employees stopped paying union dues. Today, 1,490 state employees pay union dues in Indiana, down from 16,408 in 2005. Similar declines have played out in Washington State and Utah, when those states gave members the freedom to choose.   http://www.laborunionreport.com/portal/2011/04/death-taxes-and-union-dues/

The Wall St. Journal writes: By suggesting sweeping changes to Medicare, as well as Medicaid and Social Security, Republican leaders are gambling that Americans are worried enough about the growing national debt to accept overhauling social programs that now cover medical costs or provide monthly incomes for a substantial swath of the public. [This should quiet those unions who say that it is they who must carry the full burden of deficit reduction - but it won't.]  http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703806304576240751124518520.html?mod=WSJ_hp_LEFTTopStories
