Mosquitos disappearing in some African countries; Bachmann would close EPA & Dept. of Education; Richard Trumka, unions, and our President; Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owes back taxes; Obama says if Republicans say no to amnesty - he's say no to border control

The BBC reports: But in Malaria Journal, researchers say mosquitoes are also disappearing from areas with few controls.
They are uncertain if mosquitoes are being eradicated or whether they will return with renewed vigour.
Data from countries such as Tanzania, Eritrea, Rwanda, Kenya and Zambia all indicate that the incidence of malaria is dropping fast.
Researchers believe this is due to effective implementation of control programmes, especially the deployment of bed nets treated with insecticide.
But a team of Danish and Tanzanian scientists say this is not the whole story. For more than 10 years they have been collecting and counting the number of mosquitoes caught in thousands of traps in Tanzania.
In 2004 they caught over 5,000 insects. In 2009 that had dropped to just 14.
More importantly, these collections took place in villages that weren't using bed nets. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-14685612

Examiner.com reports: Michele Bachmann said that if she becomes President, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Education will be shut down.
Calling the EPA the “job-killing agency of America,” Bachmann told tea party supporters in Jacksonville Friday afternoon that if elected President, she plans to shut the agency down. http://www.examiner.com/conservative-in-spokane/michele-bachmann-promises-to-close-epa-and-education-department

American Thinker provides some history on Richard Trumpka and unions: In 1995 Trumka was one-third of a troika elected to head the AFL-CIO. His running mates for election were Sweeney, head of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and Linda Chavez-Thompson, who had been Executive Vice President of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). Calling themselves the "New Voice," this threesome pledged to replace the policies of the moderate AFL-CIO leaders who had preceded them.  Trumka would go on to serve as the AFL-CIO's secretary-treasurer from 1995 to September 2009, second in command to its president, John Sweeney.
Trumka, Sweeney, and Chavez-Thompson represented a turn away from blue-collar industrial unionism and the AFL-CIO's traditional emphasis on raising wages and improving working conditions.  Rather, they focused on recruiting ever-growing numbers of government workers who would benefit from higher taxes and bigger government, and who therefore could reliably support socialism and America's pro-big government Democratic Party.
Shortly afterward Trumka twice invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination  in a Teamsters Union scandal which involved a number of prominent Democrats  in a scheme substantially identical to another money laundering operation.

Among those named by witnesses and investigators [involved in this scheme to illegally fund and influence a union election] were Richard Trumka, Ron Carey, Andrew Stern, AFSCME President Gerald McEntee, Bill Clinton's Deputy Chief of Staff Harold Ickes, and Clinton-Gore fundraiser Terry McAuliffe

When the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Peter Hoekstra started looking into this Teamsters Union scandal, he was asked by the Clinton-appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Mary Jo White, not to subpoena McAuliffe, Ickes, Trumka and certain others on grounds that their testimony might interfere with a criminal investigation that she and the Clinton Justice Department were already pursuing. But after Hoekstra agreed to White's request, as he described it, "the entire Teamsters investigation [by White and the Clinton Justice Department] has fallen into a black hole."

During the 2008 presidential election Trumka worked hard for Obama's election and the rewards for his contributions were quickly apparent. By February he was named to the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board.  A few months after that, on September 16, he was elected president of the of the AFL-CIO.
Trumka poured  millions of union dollars into Obama's campaign and was well rewarded with access  of which he bragged just  a few months ago:
"I'm at the white House a couple times a week -- two, three times a week. I have conversations every day with someone in the White House or in the administration. Every day."

Unions spent heavily in the 2010 midterm elections; they accounted for three of the top five high-spending outside groups in that cycle.  They also spent tens of millions of dollars in Wisconsin this year in an attempt to wrest control of the state Senate away from Republicans, and failed to achieve their objective.

Just last Thursday Trumka announced that labor is scaling back their involvement with the Democratic Party.  "The day after Election Day, we were no stronger than we were the day before," said Trumka.

[I ask: how can the World Trade Center Memorial include a giant cross [to be installed below ground level] made from steel beams from the rubble of 9/11 - and then the 10 year memorial service contain no prayer or mention of God?]

The New York Post opines: This one’s truly, uh ... rich: Billionaire Warren Buffett says folks like him should have to pay more taxes -- but it turns out his firm, Berkshire Hathaway, hasn’t paid what it’s already owed for years.
That’s right: As Americans for Limited Government President Bill Wilson notes, the company openly admits that it owes back taxes since as long ago as 2002.
“We anticipate that we will resolve all adjustments proposed by the US Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) for the 2002 through 2004 tax years ... within the next 12 months,” the firm’s annual report says.
Start, for example, with his grossly disingenuous recent claim that, as he wrote in The New York Times, he paid only 17 percent of his income last year to the government -- even as many working stiffs who make far less than him coughed up higher percentages.
Fact is, unlike most other folks, Warren Buffett gets most of his income from dividends and capital gains, which are nominally taxed at 15 percent.
Left unsaid is that much of that is taxed at 35 percent (via the corporate income tax) before he even gets his hands on it. So in effect, he’s paying taxes twice (that is, when his companies actually pay, anyway).
Counting both taxes, his effective rate would really be well north of 40 percent for a big chunk of his income.
Obama’s hikes on “millionaires and billionaires” actually start with folks earning as little as $200,000.

Yahoo mail provides video: U. S. Senator John Kyl, commenting on border patrol at a Townhall meeting: Obama told him that he was to accept amnesty or Obama will leave the border open, saying that if we secure the border, we Republicans won't have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform - amnesty.  Kyl told Obama that we have a responsibility to secure our borders.  http://us.mc1610.mail.yahoo.com/mc/showMessage?.rand=371579977&fid=Inbox&mid=1_16463_ALDci2IAAPAETlsBxgydnkaiF%2Bg#_pg=showMessage;_ylc=X3oDMTBubGE5bDd1BF9TAzM5ODMwMTAyNgRhYwNkZWxNc2dz&mid=1_15606_AHzci2IAAP5ETlr%2F0AHaRyydjs8&fid=Inbox&sort=date&order=down&filterBy=&.rand=1152256189&.jsrand=362159
