Billions of Our Money Sent to Overseas Banks; No National Anthem at Lincoln Memorial?; Government Silenced Scientists on Gulf Oil Spill; US Constitution and American History Are "Niche" Programs?; New Taxes

Yahoo writes: The $700 billion U.S. bailout program launched in response to the global economic meltdown had a far greater impact overseas than other countries' financial rescue plans did on the U.S., according to a new report from a congressional watchdog. Billions of dollars in U.S. rescue funds wound up in big banks in France, Germany and other nations. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100812/ap_on_bi_ge/us_tarp_global_impact;_ylt=Av8amg08XPNQWkF9gYjRiurjOrgF;_ylu=X3oDMTJvaGNiZm1nBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwODEyL3VzX3RhcnBfZ2xvYmFsX2ltcGFjdAR

NBC proclaims: Students Silenced for Singing Anthem at Lincoln Memorial

Group Told "Demonstrations" Not Allowed

[I have to wonder what they will do with the "demonstration" of a sort when Glenn Beck's special day occurs there at the end of August.] "The area they were standing in and singing is an area that is restricted for this type of activity," said Sgt. David Schlosser. "The United States Park Police is absolutely content-neutral when it comes to any sort of demonstrations in these areas." At that point, he said, it had become political -- and the group kept singing as an act of civil disobedience. "If their idea of civil disobedience is singing the national anthem, then so be it," Gassman said. "Let them disobey."

Daily Caller opines: But while the Obama administration is doing victory laps [for having "plugged the damn hole" in the oil spill - Obama's words, not mine], more news of their botched efforts are coming to light.
Case in point: reports out today show that the government tried to silence scientists from the University of South Florida who had discovered a 6-mile-wide plume of oil in the deepest recesses of the Gulf.
USF Marine Sciences Dean William Hogarth told the St. Petersburg Times: “I got lambasted by the Coast Guard and NOAA when we said there was undersea oil.” He further said that government officials told him to retract any public statements and compared it to being “beat up” by the government.
If a hurricane hits the Gulf and oil is displaced onto land, a “new Obama administration edict requires that the oil be tested before it can be cleaned.” Translation? That means even further delays in the oil spill cleanup.
Let’s put that in perspective: 1) The Obama administration wasted months of clear weather delaying skimmers, barriers and clean-up responses, leaving the Gulf vulnerable to oil being washed ashore in hurricane season; and 2) The Obama administration now won’t allow residents to even clean the oil ‘onshore’ that their incompetence allowed to happen.

From Glenn Beck: The Center for American Progress is a progressive organization that loves big government, so it was a surprise to see that they actually had a section devoted to finding areas in education that could actually be cut. But their motive becomes apparent when the list of cuts are revealed. 'Niche' programs on outdated topics like 'The United States Constitution' and 'American History' are on the chopping block. Gee, why wouldn't progressives be in favor of those? http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.gx=1&.rand=28q8u4gamvvea

Why should you vote this November?  Because Obama and the Democrats want your money - almost all of it!  Watch this 2 1/2 minute video for more (and thanks, Jim!)  http://www.listal.com/movie/i-want-your-money/trailer

Democrats who reluctantly slashed a food stamp program to fund a state aid bill may have to do so again to pay for a top priority of first lady Michelle Obama.
The House will soon consider an $8 billion child nutrition bill that’s at the center of the first lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative. Before leaving for the summer recess, the Senate passed a smaller version of the legislation that is paid for by trimming the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps. http://thehill.com/homenews/house/114271-dems-consider-more-food-stamp-cuts-to-fund-child-nutrition-bill

Our personal favorite of the many lawsuits challenging ObamaCare is from Arizona. Representing a local business owner, Nick Coons of Tempe, Ariz., the Goldwater Institute has built an intriguing legal strategy which will shake up the debate: “Mr. Coons pays for all of his medical care out of his own pocket and he wants to continue making his own health care decisions. Under the federal health care bill, Mr. Coons will face significant fines from the IRS if he doesn’t buy a health insurance plan that has been approved by the government by 2014.”

The Goldwater Institute’s lawyer is well-known constitutional litigator Clint Bolick. Bolick argues, “The new federal law also violates Mr. Coons’ medical privacy by forcing him to disclose his medical records to an insurance company, and those records could be accessed by the federal government and others without his permission.” http://www.exposeobama.com/2010/08/13/the-lawsuit-that-could-overturn-obamacare/?utm_source=Expose+Obama&utm_campaign=7a7926fc24-EO_8_13_20108_13_2010&utm_medium=email

Rep. Chris Smith, R-NJ, has detailed how the Obama administration spent at least $23 million funding organizations that supported the new constitution in Kenya. This could be an impeachable offense. Former prosecutor Andy McCarthy has written the advocacy was “borderline criminal (and that’s being generous).”

Smith and other lawmakers have accused the Obama administration of offering incentives to Kenya to approve the controversial new constitution, promising that passage would “allow money to flow” into the nation's coffers. A federal law known as the Siljander Amendment makes it illegal for the U.S. government to lobby on abortion in other countries.
“We were unable to get any information prior to asking for those (USAID) reports,” Smith said. “There’s been no transparency in this process.”
Smith had been joined by Reps. Darrell Issa of California and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Florida, both Republicans, in requesting the federal investigation into the administration's spending on the referendum.
“U.S. law is being violated with impunity,” Smith told FoxNews.com. “We shouldn’t be pushing for other the ‘yes’ or the ‘no’ camp, but instead, we’re bankrolling the ‘yes’ campaign.”
One group that has received almost $3 million from the U.S. government, Development Alternatives, openly supported “advocating for efforts to eventually legalize abortion in Kenya,” http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/07/21/gop-lawmaker-blasts-white-house-m-spent-kenya-constitution-vote/
