The Treasury Department is resisting General Motors' push for the
government to sell off its stake in the auto maker, The Wall Street
Journal reports. Following a $50 billion bailout in 2009, the U.S.
taxpayers now own almost 27% of the company. But the newspaper said GM
executives are now chafing at that, saying it hurts the company's
reputation and its ability to attract top talent due to pay
restrictions. Earlier this year, GM

presented a plan to repurchase 200 million of the 500 million shares
the U.S. holds with the balance being sold via a public offering. But
officials at the Treasury Department were not interested as selling now
would lead to a multibillion dollar loss for the government, the
newspaper noted.

The New York Times
is reporting as the California state government is setting up its
ObamaCare exchange, the exchange has hired a PR firm (with federal
government money).
"Realizing that much of the battle will be in the public relations
realm, the exchange has poured significant resources into a detailed
marketing plan — developed not by state health bureaucrats but by the
global marketing powerhouse Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, which has
an initial $900,000 contract with the exchange," she wrote. Ogilvy's
plan is to tap major network TV shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "Modern
Family" to sell Americans on the health care law:

Citizens United, the group whose lawsuit opened the door to unlimited
political spending by individuals, corporations and unions, has reached
a deal with a half dozen television networks to air an hour-long film
before Election Day about people who have reversed their support of
President Obama.
The conservative production studio announced the agreement on Monday,

The strategy for getting U.S. forces out of Afghanistan depends on
training Afghan soldiers and police to protect the country themselves,
but on Monday the U.S. military suspended most joint field operations
with Afghan forces because so many Americans are being killed by the men
they are training.
Afghan government troops -- our
allies -- have turned their guns on NATO forces 36 times this year,
killing 51, most of them Americans. That is more attacks than the last
two years combined.

STRONG public support for cutting immigration and
a hardening attitude to benefit spongers are revealed in a major new
survey today. [In England]
Three-quarters of those questioned wanted immigration reduced.
More than half said it was bad for the economy and 48 per cent thought it undermined Britain’s cultural life. Highly skilled workers and
students with good qualifications were widely welcomed as being good for Britain but support plunged in the case of unskilled labourers.
