Having reconnected through FB with a friend from my high school days, I learned that Gene Church is an author, having written '80629' A Mengele Experiment, among other books.  Gene wrote this book about one man's experiences in a concentration camp, in 1986.  The first time I ever found any interest in history was when I read Leon Uris' Armageddon and Mila 18.  It changed my life by putting me there in the historic scenes surrounding Adolph Hitler and his Holocaust, and the unspeakable torture of the Jews.    Gene's book is extremely well written, a much shorter version of a part of history which none of us truly learned in school.  It should be required reading for high school and college students.  I warn you, since it is written in great detail,  it is difficult and painful to read.  You can find it through your library, or online.  It contains lessons we must never forget - about giving up our liberties to a government power......

ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida officials are investigating an unemployment agency that spent public money to give 6,000 superhero capes to the jobless.
Workforce Central Florida spent more than $14,000 on the red capes as part of its "Cape-A-Bility Challenge" public relations campaign. The campaign featured a cartoon character, "Dr. Evil Unemployment," who needs to be vanquished. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110419/ap_on_re_us/us_capes_for_the_unemployed

The Michigan State Police have a high-tech mobile forensics device that can be used to extract information from cell phones belonging to motorists stopped for minor traffic violations. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan last Wednesday demanded that state officials stop stonewalling freedom of information requests for information on the program.
ACLU learned that the police had acquired the cell phone scanning devices.
“Law enforcement officers are known, on occasion, to encourage citizens to cooperate if they have nothing to hide,” ACLU staff attorney Mark P. Fancher wrote
A US Department of Justice test of the CelleBrite UFED used by Michigan police found the device could grab all of the photos and video off of an iPhone within one-and-a-half minutes. The device works with 3000 different phone models and can even defeat password protections.
“Complete extraction of existing, hidden, and deleted phone data, including call history, text messages, contacts, images, and geotags,” a CelleBrite brochure explains regarding the device’s capabilities. “The Physical Analyzer allows visualization of both existing and deleted locations on Google Earth. In addition, location information from GPS devices and image geotags can be mapped on Google Maps.”  [I WILL NOT GIVE MY CELL PHONE WITHOUT A SEARCH WARRANT, AND I HAVE NOTHING STORED THERE - NO CONTACT LISTS, TWEETS, PHOTOS - NOTHING!!! - see reference above to the Jews who gave in an inch at a time, losing all their freedoms and sense of self.]  http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/04/michigan-police-search-cell-phones-during-traffic-stops/

The Huffington Post writes: Pausing to observe Holy Week amidst war and the policy struggles, President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that the agony of Jesus Christ through death and resurrection puts mere political struggle "in perspective." ""As busy as we are, as many tasks as pile up, during this season, we are reminded that there is something about the resurrection ... of Our Savior Jesus Christ that puts everything else in perspective."  Obama said his daughters help keep things in perspective for him, and so does having a "strong spouse.... But nothing beats Scripture and the reminder of the Eternal."
This was said by the same man who said that the Muslim call to prayers is the sweetest sound on earth.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/19/obama-at-easter-prayer-br_n_850944.html

The UK Guardian reports: Security researchers have discovered that Apple's iPhone keeps track of where you go – and saves every detail of it to a secret file on the device which is then copied to the owner's computer when the two are synchronised.
The file contains the latitude and longitude of the phone's recorded coordinates along with a timestamp, meaning that anyone who stole the phone or the computer could discover details about the owner's movements using a simple program.
For some phones, there could be almost a year's worth of data stored, as the recording of data seems to have started with Apple's iOS 4 update to the phone's operating system, released in June 2010.
"Apple has made it possible for almost anybody – a jealous spouse, a private detective – with access to your phone or computer to get detailed information about where you've been," said Pete Warden, one of the researchers. http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/apr/20/iphone-tracking-prompts-privacy-fears

The Washington Times reports: Dismissing concerns over possible links between Libyan rebels and al Qaeda, the Obama administration has notified Congress it is providing $25 million in nonlethal aid to the rebels’ effort to drive Col. Moammar Gadhafi’s regime from power.
The new authorization for assistance would cover “vehicles, fuel trucks and fuel bladders, ambulances, medical equipment, protective vests, binoculars, and non-secure radios,” according to a memorandum attached to the letter.  http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/apr/19/libya-rebels-will-receive-25-million-from-us/

The Michigan Education Association writes:  GOP leaders aim to toughen teacher strike penalties
A proposal supposedly intended to deter teachers from illegally striking would now strip them of their ability to teach for two years - or for life - and would kick out the employee's union for five years.
The penalties would apply even if no strike actually occurred, so long as it was determined that a strike was in the planning stages. The legislation states that neither a union member nor a union could "solicit or encourage any other person to strike" or "conspire with any other person to cause a strike."
The House Education Committee took testimony today on House Bills 4465 and 4466. A vote could come as early next week. MEA vigorously opposes these bills that seek to further silence the voices of school employees.

Local News 8 reports: [Idaho] Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter vetoed it in favor of his own executive order, which blocks portions of President Barack Obama's health care reform law.
The order says state agencies cannot implement or receive federal dollars for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.  '"The governor said Idaho has been working on a health insurance exchange for the past five years to help consumers understand their options. House Bill 298 would have handed over control of that exchange to the federal government.  http://www.localnews8.com/news/27614296/detail.html

The Boston Herald reports:  State-funded sex education Web site that tells teens an abortion is “much easier than it sounds” has drawn fire from outraged pro-lifers who say mariatalks.com is glossing over ugly truths, steering teens toward the controversial procedure and counseling them how to keep mom and dad in the dark.
“The commonwealth is using taxpayer money to tell kids how to get a secret abortion, and that’s wrong,” said Linda Thayer, a former Boston schoolteacher who is vice president for educational affairs of Massachusetts Citizens for Life, which this week took aim at the site. http://www.bostonherald.com/news/regional/view.bg?articleid=1332044

US News reports: The Army, under public and congressional attack for a $600,000 plan to dress up a bus depot at a new military facility near Washington with three pieces of art, such as a 10 foot-tall fairy riding a gurgling toad, has scrapped the project. Instead, it will go with a simple plan to “enhance the aesthetics” of a concrete wall at the new Mark Center in Alexandria, Va.
The reversal came after Washington Whispers, the Drudge Report, and local media focused on the pricey project and one of the leading contenders for the $600,000, a proposal for two murals and a huge toad and fairy sculpture.
Stunned by the expense, noted government watch dog Sen. Chuck Grassley opened an investigation.  http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/washington-whispers/2011/04/20/army-scraps-600000-toad-art-project

The Journal-Sentinel writes about Wisconsin: Organizers say they'll submit recall petitions Thursday against three Democratic state senators - the first time since the state went recall happy in February that filed petitions have targeted that party.
The campaigns against Sens. Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay), Jim Holperin (D-Conover) and Robert Wirch (D-Pleasant Prairie) said separately Wednesday that they'll file enough signatures to force each senator into a recall election.
Efforts are under way to recall eight Democratic and eight Republican state senators, but before Thursday, the only signature filings had been against four GOP senators. http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/120328284.html
